Virtually no chance Disney licenses it out and the Imprint is a dated master, but the StudioCanal Germany/Arthaus release with a fairly new 4K restoration overseen by David Lynch and undertaken by StudioCanal is very affordable and easily the best it has ever looked. Obviously the 2K disc is B-locked, but the 4K is Region Free. English audio is included, just no subs.

Also encoded by David Mackenzie/Fidelity in Motion, who Criterion seems too stingy to ever hire.

Maybe if THE SHAPE OF WATER and ALL OF US STRANGERS sell enough units, they'll consider licensing it out, but keep in mind that Disney only has the US distribution rights to THE STRAIGHT STORY. StudioCanal has it in multiple EU countries, hence why Lynch was able to supervise a new 4K restoration that has already released on 4K and 2K in Germany, France, and Italy IIRC.

Also, with THE SHAPE OF WATER in particular, Criterion needs to actually justify it's worth picking up and isn't just a cash grab release, especially when Criterion's encoding largely sucks (there are exceptions) and there are already highly regarded 4K and 2K discs from Fox back in 2018.

I say all of this as someone who has already preordered THE SHAPE OF WATER from the B&N sale against my better judgement, as it is an absolute favorite of mine and I knew the second it was announced that I would not be able to wait for a consensus of how the encoding is. (Also helps I do not own the Fox 4K release and only the 2K.)

I saw the Intrada release of the OST for The Straight Story, and there was not a Disney logo in sight, so to quote Dawn of the Dead, "You never know."

The Keepa extension is great for tracking Amazon price drops, and you can also set up alerts for a desired price point. The book is much cheaper as an audiobook on Audible, if you think you can absorb it that way.

I'm thinking we might be getting the Kenji Misumi Sword Trilogy soon. It was toured by Janus and is still not on the Criterion Channel. That usually means they want to unveil it on disc first like Demon Pond, Eastern Condors, etc. I mean it could still be a year away, but I think a disc release will be happening soon enough.
