Not familiar with all of these but two definite hits on my list: Devil & Daniel Webster and To Die For. TDF was one of those I let slowly disappear on me and I’ve been regretting it. Very happy to get another shot and an upgrade to boot.

Really excited for To Die For! Hope they keep the Gus Van Sant train going with Even Cowgirls Get the Blues & Drugstore Cowboy!

Also in for All the Beauty and the Bloodshed and Saint Omer!

Curious about The Runner & The Devil and Daniel Webster!

The Devil and Daniel Webster is one of my favourite films so I am super pleased to see this restored and available.

It's a pretty solid month actually. To Die For 4k is a nice surprise. I'm in for All the Beauty and the Bloodshed too.

I'm in for more Kidman. And Van Sant. Weird that no one else released it first though. Or newer at least is what I mean.

To Die For 4K is a nice surprise. Love To Die For. A great Gus Van Sant film and one that is highly underrated. The Image Blu-ray edition from years ago was nothing special, the presentation was mediocre... so this should be a huge upgrade for the film.

Now Criterion will have to upgrade My Own Private Idaho to 4K as well. Another favorite of mine. (On the subject of Gus Van Sant, Elephant would make an essential Criterion release with a lot of absorbing documentaries about the subject.)

Just The Devil and Daniel Webster for sure. I’ll have to break out my old dvd and rewatch To Die For to refresh my memory on that one. The rest of the announcements are but kudos to Criterion for upgrading one of their dvd titles. Keep it up!

Thank you Criterion, for helping me save money to buy Warner Archives and Kino Lorber releases over the last year or so. The Devil and Daniel Webster is the one for me. I guess I have to stop wanting those 1950's and 60's Japanese cinema you own, because I'll be 85 years old before they see the light of day on physical HD. So I can't wait until 2055!

Picked up a few titles from Criterion's current 30% off sale. Using the $10 they sent me + $50 I recently earned from points, the total was only $87.

Destry Rides Again
Gilda
The Servant
Seconds
In the Heat of the Night

Now my Criterion wishlist is comprised mostly of titles I am hesitant to buy because they could be randomly upgraded to UHD at any moment.

This has been said before, by others, and by me, but I simply cannot make any sense of relegating films which have new 4K restorations to blu-ray only releases in this day and age. I am no 4K completionist, and I have no problems with sticking to blu-ray only releases for films where a 4K master isn’t available, and there are films I have on blu-ray sourced from 4K masters released a few years ago that I probably won’t upgrade to a 4K re-release because the blu-ray I have seems adequate. But why should, in 2024, any new release of a film from a 4K master not include a UHD option…

No company frustrates me more than Criterion and I'm sure most here know why, but I'll give them credit where credit is due.

Just watched their release of Pinocchio and it was an exceptional release for one of the best films of 2022. The clarity was much better than my Netflix stream and it was nice seeing the details on all the puppets. This truly a remarkable film, and I thank Criterion for getting this film out on physical media. Now, how about some Samurai Rebellion?

Samurai Rebellion really does stick out as a sore thumb as one of the most odd omissions on the blu ray format. If they could only do one more Japanese upgrade it would probably need to be that one. I mean that was a staple release for them in the past. Maybe they'll finally release it one of these days.

Yeah, it's a HUGE title. One of the biggest samurai films ever made and still pretty surprised it doesn't have a Blu-ray anywhere in the world I believe. At this point, I could see Toho doing a 4K restoration of it before Criterion ever releases it, but even that's not guaranteed. I'd take an older, but organic master in a heartbeat.

There is a scandinavian blu-ray release of Samurai Rebellion that came out little over a year ago.I havenīt seen the disc myself but thereīs some comments here:https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=359068 ,mostly about messed up subtitles.

For me, besides the Kurosawa films, Samurai Rebellion and Kon Ichikawa's Fires on the Plain are the two Japanese films that frustratingly haven't had an upgrade from DVD. Oh, and Kinoshita's Twenty-Four Eyes. And don't even get me started on the lack of Mikio Naruse films. Floating Clouds and Mother would be a nice start. But, in keeping with the season and all I know it'll be "onlyyyy in myyyyy dreaaaaaaaaaams..."
