I really hope, too, that Criterion puts out I Know Where I'm Going, and preferably in the near future.

To Die For is great but ngl, not a whole lot here that I'm particularly interested in.

My wallet will thank me.

I feel like a La Dolce Vita 4K would be a hard sell unless it’s a massive upgrade over their Blu-ray, and I don’t think a newer master exists than what’s on the Blu-ray. Despite being a 4K scan, it’s from the early 2010s, so it’s rather old. One could make the same argument about the Apu Trilogy, but those films are considered ‘cultural patrimony’ for the entire South Asian community, not just cinephiles, and…there are A LOT of South Asians in the world, so, in other words, a sizable market for such a release. Just my two cents…

I just don’t think a 4K SDR UHD of La Dolce Vita sourced from the same master as their Blu-ray would be really necessary.

Anyhow, there’s nothing I’d preorder this month.

P.S. The Runner does look interesting, but it’s something I’d probably watch on the Criterion Channel first.

Nice line up. Great to finally have The Devil and Daniel Webster. To Die For 4K came out of nowhere. Not familiar with The Runner, but it sounds interesting.

Well this explains the scarcity of the old blu ray of To Die For.

Glad to see The Devil and Daniel Webster, as Walter Huston is an absolute delight in his performance!

Even if I wish it was a different 1941 movie, which also had two titles. And starred Vivien Leigh.

Tepid month for me, but they can't all be winners. I am sure I will pick up the Daniel Webster upgrade on a 50% sale at some point and I might get To Die For eventually.

Not heard of The Runner before!

Saint Omer has a decent selection of extras, though Bloodshed is relatively barebones (both NYFF conversations are on YouTube), while the main extras on All That Money Can Buy and To Die For are commentaries.

I have come to really enjoy Iranian cinema over the past couple of years and The Runner looks really great, so I will purchase that one.

Obviously The Devil and Daniel Webster.

Bloodshed was the best film of 2022, imo. Great acquisition by Criterion.

Well that, and the fact that it was a licensed title at Image Entertainment (Now RJL Entertainment) way back in 2011, which likely never renewed the deal with Sony for the titles they distributed for them. Many have gone to other distributors.

Wonder if CC will reissue a 4K Blu-ray of Daniel Webster in a couple years? I’d presume they’d do it right out of the gate if they could (with it being from a 4K scan) since the upgrade has been requested for years, but I’ll be picking up the 1080p regardless.
