Good to see Eclipse return with a Kiarostami set.

This is an interesting development because it may change how potential mainline box sets are handled. No names needed!

I bought one. I didn’t like the films partially due to the low quality of the masters. I haven’t been interested in any others because of that even though some films in those sets interest me.

It certainly sounds like there is some interest in buying them on blu-ray rather than DVD, at least in this thread. How that translates to the real world remains to be seen, I guess, but I have to think that Criterion has some idea of how much demand there is for this stuff.

I bought a few in the late 2000s/early 2010s and loved them, then stopped because I stopped buying DVDs.

They'll be releasing them on Blu-ray now, so... Yes.

If they are priced right and released at a pace that supports regular blind buying, I'll grab them as they are released.

No, I think it stopped for three reasons;
1. The person running the line, Michael Koresky, left Criterion
2. The Criterion Channel
3. Phasing out of releasing DVDs.

They stopped DVD-only releases in the mainline series in 2010. No surprise if by 2018, many of the possible buyers of the Eclipse series were no longer interested in buying DVDs and were waiting for Criterion to start doing Blu-ray editions of the line.

Criterion have Cape Fear 1962 and 1991:

Well Criterion needs to put them both out on 4K already as I'm thinking of buying the old Blu-Rays next year. I'm getting sick of waiting on 4Ks of these two.

I would love for both versions of Cape Fear to see the light of day on 4K.

That would be a great two-pack, like the two versions of The Killers.

I think there's another reason: they couldn't afford the staff anymore. They had, what, two major layoffs in the last 10 years?

Or the two versions of The Front Page. Or the two versions of Magnificent Obsession.

But I think both films are important enough to each have their own release, like the two versions of Nightmare Alley.

Maybe I'm crazy for dreaming about it, but I'm hoping it'll be two separate cases in a slipbox like the Yojimbo/Sanjuro set.

If you read the blurb on the email they sent out, they specifically mentioned a handful of sets that were coming soon. So for sure several in the pipeline.
