Had an initial playback issue where the audio was clipping in and out every 5 seconds or so. Went out to the main menu and started it again and seemed to correct itself.

Edit: just started again right in the beginning when he looks up and sees the light go out in the bedroom. Anyone else having an issue like this?

I liked the desaturated look of this last night enough that I dialed down the color when I watched Halloween II tonight. Worked quite well on such a relentlessly dark film. GF still started fading like usual when Laurie left her room though.

A woman at one Target was able to get me a copy. They had three total, and two slipcovers had huge bends in them. Naturally, I went to another Target to try to find a more perfect slipcover but the guy there said he couldn't grab it because the street date said September 30th. Not sure why it would be a Sunday but that's what he told me. Has anyone else come across this information?

The upgrade is not huge, but it is an upgrade. The colors look better. The HDR is the real reason why someone would get this over the BD. There's an uptick in detail for sure. The grain looks better and more film-like. I think people who will watch it on a big screen like a projector will appreciate this upgrade.

Framing is different. So this is after all a brand new 4K scan.

I thought the upgrade was solid. This will definitely be my go-to for Halloween. I don't know why there is so much complaining about this release.

A Target employee got a copy for me from the back room. I was thrilled that it was only $15 and elated with the picture quality. I've watched this film hundreds of times, yet I noticed so many things I've never seen before. The clarity is exceptional at times.

The guy that found my copy at Target said it was dated in their system to be put out on the 30th but he noted there wasn't a separate street date listed so he gave it to me saying that it should ring up. Not sure how the dates are listed in the system but your guy was mistaken about the street date

It's mostly because of the original mono track not being included.

Do I detect a bit of sarcasm? It does look great, though, even if the sound is a bit sh**

It's a bit of a Sophie's Choice. I think I lean towards pq.

Yeah, I'll be sticking with the UHD.

It almost feels as if a narrative where UHD and HDR are negligible advances in PQ is being created. Therefore restoring the non 4K, non UHD and HDR blu ray with the original mono in the boxed set to "definitive" disc status.

You really think so? I call bullshit on that. And no it can't do no autocal-fu, but when you can do it manually does it actually matter? Even the much vaunted 3D LUT capability has ended up as a non-starter on the 2018 OLEDs - at least according to certain pro calibrators - because it's so time consuming to implement and so inflexible when it comes to altering it afterwards.

It doesn't help when the boxset version has the actual mono audio though, it's giving a few people a crutch to lean on that they wouldn't normally have so they might as well chuck the HDR and 4K on the fire while they're at it.

Me, I think the caps look rather nice, not an Earth-shattering difference but there's generally a "tighter" look to it with a smidge more fine detail and where these complaints of it looking almost monochrome are coming from I can't quite fathom, unless people are still holding up the old THX transfer as the yardstick? They seem to have done exactly what I wanted with the greens in some shots though, tuning out the lushness of the leaves, while skin tones appear to have slightly more fullness and depth to them.

Is Best Buy ever getting this in? This shows in stock at my local target but the employees tell me they don’t have it in stock and my local Walmart doesn’t have it in stock. I’d rather get it In person so I can get a slip
