That's been several years ago. I think it was around 2012-2013 perhaps. Most of the 90's/00's animated films that aren't considered part of their signature collection are still available on Blu-ray as well. Except for Fantasia 2000. I think that might be part of their signature collection now, as they seem to bundle it with Fantasia. I would love to see the original IMAX Fantasia 2000 on 4k UHD with a Dolby Atmos mix done well. It's the only way to reproduce the IMAX sound this movie had.

most 4k UHDs are up conversion..so using the up conversion on an Oppo 203 with Dolby Vision on SBDs is frowned upon..LOL Now if you are talking soap opera effects from the tv, then yes, but a 4K release with no improvement in sound and mediocre at best reviews save your money and take advantage of what you gear can do.
if you have a budget tv and player don't critcize others. If you have a better tv and an OPPO 203 you know what I am talking about. |

Most UHD's are an upconversion only in terms of detail - HDR is always done as a regrade. The more successful ones use higher-bit sources but regrading for HDR is fundamentally different than SDR.
You can check my signature and see my gear for yourself. |

true but my post was about a not too good release and how the SBD can be competitive with it when using an OPPO 203.The sound is the same on both discs, no upgrade in that department.

I'll refrain from judging the Oppo's "add HDR to SDR" mode further. I know it's a terrible processing mode on my gear, and that processing modes in general are considered bad, but hey who knows I guess. I haven't seen the Oppo's in person. However I will tell you that Hunt For Red October is NOT a minor upgrade. It's a new remaster from a 4k scan of the original negative, and all the Clancy UHDs blow the BDs out of the water. There's zero chance your Oppo turns the ancient BD into UHD quality.

you would be surprised what the OPPO 203 can do connected to an OLED especially in this case where the reviews are very mixed on quality of picture.Suggest you borrow an OPPO 203 and try it yourself. Im not going to tell you it's as good as the Avengers 4K series but one on one it's close. There hasn't been one outstanding or excellent review of this disc or any of the other Ryan collection discs other than your saying so. It's a great movie. A real favorite of mine since day one yet I have no interest in this release. So what does that tell you.
ps; I have owned this movie in every format from Vhs, LD, you name it..till now. |

This movie looks gorgeous in UHD. It absolutely crushes the BD in every way. It’s hilarious to suggest that upscaling the old disc is a visually comparable experience. And now we’re using reviews as a reliable reference? Come on.
