I guess that I shouldn't be surprised that there are people in here that don't understand the fictional difference between Logan and Joker. Works of fantasy-fiction exist on a spectrum. The slider on this one is almost all the way to zero. There are no supernatural elements in Joker.

My comparison was based off the fact that they are DC films. Different genres, yes, but still based off characters from the comics.

Gotta say that the regular UHD cover is lovely for this, it's so simple but so effective.

I just watched my blind buy and loved it. Dark, gritty, real, and a terrific performance from Phoenix. This was such a welcome reprieve from all the "comic book" movies of late.

I mean his movies have zero heart and are giant plot exercises. He's a technician in search of artistic talent. Interstellar is where it's most obvious, to the point that it's laughable. How anyone can watch that movie and not chuckle most of the time is a mystery to me.

Not arguing either but Nolan's movies are not even close to being in the same league as Joker.

Well, kinda. It's not super noticable but when....
[Show spoiler]he killed his former co-worker in his apartment
, the blood squirts were CG and the blood on the wall and face just looked digital and odd to me. I wish they would have more realistic there but maybe they were trying to duplicate the weird blood coloring and surrealness of the Taxi Driver shootout.

Meanwhile, when he
[Show spoiler]kills Murray at the end, I thought that was one of the most realistic and disturbing headshots
I've ever seen.

In the directors commentary, Phillips states all the blood in the movie to be CGI. Also CGI are some buildings to fillout the city backdrop.

Shaking off the imposed repression of society is part of the thematic concepts at play here. Dance like nobody's watching.

It's like when a little kid's mom tells them they can't go to school with a pink mohawk, knowing it will probably cause problems, having a throughline all the way into adulthood. Wherein self-reinforcing cultural norms are absolutely suffocating some people, and that feeling of strangulation only gets more unbearable the further down the rungs of social compatibility you go.

It's cool how we can choose to either view something as stupid, or get something more out of it.

Not all comic book adaptations are heroic fantasy. Some graphic novels are 100% real life screenplays ready to be filmed.

I understand the love for it, but at the same time it’s more of a fictional raw birthing variant of how a joker could be conceived in real life without anything supernatural. As far as the Heath Ledger Joker in Dark Night, he’s still the best that is akin to DC Universe which this film has absolutely no ties to IMHO.

A History of Violence is a great example of that.

RIP Ledger..

This jackass wasn't inspired by Joker. That was widely debunked fake news.

My only two real gripes were the incessant Wayne tie-ins, and this one particular moment where they undermined my intelligence as an audience member and edited in a little more than they had to at one point. Rest was solid, and the final act was pretty gripping. Not one of my favorites of the year, but I wouldn't hate it performing well at the Oscars.

It really is, might be my favorite standard 4K packaging out of the over 100 4K's I own... and the matte slip is a nice touch. Can't wait to see what the '11 Academy Award Nominations' release looks like, haha!

no it's not. There is nothing 'fantasy' about the Joker at all. Besides his own delusions of course . But I mean there's nothing that would put it into the 'low fantasy' genre. It's complete realism.
When did I call it fantasy and technically all movies are fantasy, mic drop

It's not a genre, it's a category that includes every movie adapted from comic books. So Joker might be extremely different from Ant-Man in genre and tone, but they're both coming from the comic book world, and they both features comic book characters.
Therefore, despite the filmmakers don't want to admit it, Joker is a comic book movie after all..

* but as I said before comic book is not a genre nor a formula that every character or superhero must follow. Many Batman comics were already detective fiction and gangster stories...
