Which is the exact reason it got all the nominations today. The academy fumbled with Logan a few years back & Joker is essentially the same type of film.

While Logan still had plenty of action scenes in, it wasn’t that typical comic book vibe, don’t pretend the Nolan Batman’s did it first, those are still very comic bookie movie. Logan used a well established & popular comic character & made it into a totally different genre as in film noir & western. Joker while hardly any action scenes still took a very well established & the most popular comic villain & turned it into a character study that had similarities to early Scorcese, so yea the 2 are different as far as action, but very much the same as far as the approach to different genres. I honestly hope Joker wins BP also besides actor for Phoenix.

Exactly, there's literally nothing in common aside from them both being R-rated. In fact, they're basically polar opposites. One is an origin story of a broken man being driven to madness and becoming a villain, the other is the final redemption of a conflicted hero.

FYI to other people dipping their toes into the streaming water to listen to the commentary: iTunes extras apparently aren't available on the Roku, PS4 or Samsung/LG apps and they don't work with Airplay either. So there's a decent chance you'll have to watch the film with commentary on a small device or try to sync it up manually between two devices
I hate streaming so freaking much. ![]() |

My only two real gripes were the incessant Wayne tie-ins, and this one particular moment where they undermined my intelligence as an audience member and edited in a little more than they had to at one point. Rest was solid, and the final act was pretty gripping. Not one of my favorites of the year, but I wouldn't hate it performing well at the Oscars. |

To keep on topic, loved this film. So out of the ballpark of what I was expecting. Heard a theory at work that the entire movie was happening in his head and he was in the asylum the entire time. On my second watch, I could see some basis for that argument. Thoughts? |
