I bet Ruined could make a compelling arguement about how the Lionsgate disc is actually the most accurate presentation of the film that's ever been released

I don't care if it's accurate. I like it.

It's not a matter of fluctuations, there's been a constant, and steep, decline since the 70s.

And at the rate we're going, everywhere will look like this in 2032.

I used to think Taco Bell was just a made up chain that studios had tacitly agreed to use to avoid law suits from real restaurants. Like Acme and 555 numbers.

They only opened the first TB here in Glasgow about four or five years ago. We're being belatedly TB'ed.

I've watched both. It's not really a bad thing to have multiple versions.

Arrow might be waiting until they’ve licensed more of the films and doing more work on the original before announcing anything. There’s plenty of extras they could add to the original (the Bio documentary, new interviews, etc) and Shout’s early encode can be improved upon. Also the extended cut could restore the missing title cards that were used in the broadcast cut.

I guess it’s possible Arrow only has digital rights, with the physical rights with someone like Second Sight, but too early to say. Since Trancas doesn’t have any distribution channels, they rely on other companies to release 1, 4-5 digitally (Shout also releases those films digitally in NA; they have similar deals with other companies too), and they may have wanted them available as soon as possible.

I’d probably double dip on an Arrow release. This film is just too important for me not to own the best edition, and I’ve always been underwhelmed by Shout’s release.

Pretty sure 2-3 are with Lionsgate in the UK. That’s who Via Vision licensed them from for AU.

According to posts in the thread for Imprints set they're with Sanctuary in the UK. The last time they got released on disc were some DVDs in 2010 + 2011, they've never even had a Blu-ray release in the UK.

Which is probably why Universal released their HII Blu Ray region free. Crafty buggers.

Sanctuary Records Group Ltd. has been defunct since 2007.

The rights for HII and HIII were picked up by Scanbox Entertainment, with DVD releases coming in 2011. Apart from a different menu, the content and transfers were straight ports of the Sanctuary releases.

In 2013, the DVDs were reissued with one notable change - the replacement of Scanbox logos and serial numbers with High Fliers Films. Apart from the logo and serial number changes (and Halloween III incorrectly receiving a BBFC 18 certificate on the packaging!), the DVDs and packaging are identical.

Pictured here is the uncensored - yet horrendous quality - M.I.A. release from 2000, the censored Scanbox release from 2011 and the identical High Fliers release from 2013. Note the erroneous BBFC 18 rating!

Halloween '78 - Lionsgate (DVD, Blu-ray, 4K)
Halloween II '81 - High Fliers (DVD)
Halloween III: Season of the Witch - High Fliers (DVD)
Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers - Lionsgate (DVD)
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - Lionsgate (DVD)
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (Theatrical Cut) - Miramax/Paramount (DVD)
Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later - Miramax/Paramount (DVD, 4K)
Halloween Resurrection - Miramax/Paramount (DVD)

Not sure what is going on with the Rob Zombie movies at present. HMV and Fopp seem to always have the old Entertainment in Video Blu-rays and DVDs of Halloween II '09 knocking about on their shelves.

Halloween '18 - Universal (DVD, Blu-ray, 4K)
Halloween Kills - Universal (DVD, Blu-ray, 4K)
Halloween Ends - Universal (DVD, Blu-ray, 4K)

So, for a 1978 to 2002 boxset collecting the first eight movies, Arrow Video would definitely need to license the rights from Lionsgate and Miramax/Paramount. With Arrow Video's logo now preceding the digital copies of '78, 4 and 5, we can pretty much confirm that they've already worked something out with Lionsgate.

High Fliers seems like a rogue element. I'd say that maybe they lost the rights, but I'll be damned if those two movies aren't the most steadily available DVDs of the series year in, year out in HMV and Fopp. We know High Fliers/Scanbox/Sanctuary have played well with other distributors before, as they have allowed HII and HIII to appear in numerous Anchor Bay Halloween UK DVD boxsets.

Why does the witch-face look sinister on the bottom two, but the top one looks as though it's perving?

So the Arrow digital copy begins with an orange Arrow logo? That’s pretty cool. Although if it also keeps the Trancas and Compass logos of the Shout disc, that would be a lot. lol

If it's authentic to the UK release in 1979, then it should have this at the beginning. Go on, Arrow.
