I just received my movie from Amazon today...I’m not into slip covers but OMG this is beautiful. Absolutely my favorite one. I also got a pristine mint one. I’m afraid to damage it...lol...I can’t wait to watch this later tonight!

This one even compares it to Close Encounters, which had none of those problems.

No, I don't like any UHDs. That's why I own 200 of them already and praise them in almost every thread.

The irony is that even there, they’re misinformed, saying the Atmos is far more “conservative” than the “controversial” remix on the previous releases. It is nothing of the sort. It includes each and every one of the alterations I hated before. I checked.

i think the 4k transfer is amazing. i feel like this is how it was intended to look. this is the movie i've viewed the most in my lifetime as it is one of my favorites. did anyone else notice that certain flying scenes where the wires were visible on the BD seem to be nonexistent on the 4k transfer? (i.e. when lois and superman take off at the beginning of the "can you read my mind" sequence.) also during this sequence on the BD, the stars in the background could be seen on the clothing and hair of the characters in certain shots. that appears to have been fixed as well on the 4k, unless i just missed it. i have watched it twice since i bought it though and havent noticed these issues.....overall couldnt be happier with this version of the film. Happy the grain was intact, and the colors have a very natural look. after seeing this, i can tell they brightened the picture on the BD.

Is the original Warners logo preserved at the beginning and NEXT YEAR SUPERMAN II at the end?

So I got this today and couldn't wait to watch it. The opening sequence always gives me goosebumps. I just love it. I read a little bit here and there about what others thought. For the most part, I thought it looked okay. Some scenes looked just amazing. The fortress looked fantastic, but then it was flat in the last scene with Superman taking flight for the first time in the movie.

That's been the case throughout. Most of the time I was entranced and then I'd get thrown out of the movie with what I thought were flat moments. I felt it was tolerable considering how great much of the movie looked.

I thought the Krypton clothing looked pretty great. Heads, not so much.

This will always be the best superhero of them all.

Overall happy with the day one purchase but perhaps I have some bias as I remember being 6 and watching this in the theater...admittedly have to watch again as I fell asleep part way through(cause I am old and have kids and not because of the movie!) I actually thought the best 4k shots were inside the Daily Planet. Other than the day glo Krypton clothes thought the opening sequence was underwhelming. Slightly disappointed that the power of the opening credits theme seemed overwhelmed by the surround sound of the whooshing nameplates. Haven't encountered this before so I dont think it's my speaker setup. I think for a different movie to which I was not so attached would have waited and bought it for cheaper. Will have to watch again to see if my opinion changes...Please tell me I'm off and your experience was better...

I agree, the reviewer spends an inordinate amount of time bashing Warners executives for choosing a presumed legacy audio track as the default track on the disc without asking why that is. Maybe on other discs it's an unjustified choice, but with this one it makes sense, as the disc is defaulting to the original theatrical presentation as much as possible. The reviewer seems to miss this point.

The whooshing names got boosted for the 5.1 remix, Donner even added a loud 'clonk' to his credit when it appears. They've probably pumped them up even more in Atmos and is exactly what I was referring to before about the music being subservient to the hyped-up sound effects.

Reading through this thread in full is fascinating. Everybody seems to have his/her own unique bête noire, but it's never the same -- some people don't like the dull Kryptonian garb, some don't like the concluding scene of Supes in outer space, some think Kal-El's first flight is flat while other say Kryptonian faces are flat, and here you're saying the opening credits are disappointing even while others are geeking out over them. Some love the Atmos track (the site reviewer) while some hate it for retaining the revisionist touches.

Opinions seem to be all over the place with this disc, each pointing at very different, specific aspects of the presentation. Unique, as criticisms tend to herd.

That's HDR for you bruv, we could all be seeing different things, quite literally. But enough people are talking about subdued skin tones to make me think that it's not just me.

As for the audio, that's a clearer line to tread: some people just want their many, many speakers filled and have shit zooming and exploding all over the place, other people would like the opportunity to hear the audio as it was originally. This movie managed to go without 5.1 surround sound for almost a quarter of century and it did alright for itself, you know?
