What do you mean when you say "any" company can release this? I don't believe it's a public domain title. Plus, Second Sight seems to be a pretty reputable boutique label with well-regarded, quality releases such as The Changeling, The Colour of Pomegranates, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc. They don't strike me as a company like Mill Creek that's just going to recycle some really dated master and put out a shoddy release.

Second Sight has indeed done nice releases like Xtro, When a Stranger Calls, and the Changeling.
I know the movie is what counts, but at least they'd likely give a nice package, box, booklet, and perhaps CD soundtrack. And probably region free. Next to Arrow, I'd say they're the UK label to watch. |

Maybe he means it seems like anyone can release the European cut as Rubinstein doesn't have his scummy mitts on it? I guess I don't get why that release was able to include the US theatrical version, though. Is it just that Rubinstein doesn't hold distribution rights in Europe, but we're stuck with the same old transfers as that there's no way to do a new transfer without going through him? |

Isn't Second Sight films a British label? They are able to release Dawn in Italy, so why not England? Rubenstein only has the rights for North American territories correct? Was really excited as I thought this might be getting a US release for a second.

I've picked up the last 3 big ones (Xtro, The Changeling, and When a Stranger Calls) and all 3 have been fantastic releases. If Second Sight is planning a set like those it's arguably the best possible scenario in my head as they will treat it right.

This is fantastic news! I really hope it's a region free release.

Sadly, the region free digibook edition of Xtro is too expensive at present. I'll hold out for a U.S. release. |

When it was announced it was Region B locked. I went ahead and pre-ordered anyways as the package was too attractive to pass up and the inclusion of When a Stranger Calls back was too attractive to miss. About half way through the pre-order period "due to popular demand" according to Second Sight, they changed their minds (or got permission) to make the release Region Free. It's another attractive release and is exactly the kind of product that I appreciate as a physical media collector. The only way it could have been better was if When a Stranger Calls Back had gotten its own disc like originally planned.

I'll only be excited if we hear that it has a new scan of the theatrical cut.

I might be in the minority, but I hope that it includes the extended cut of the film as that's my favorite viewing experience for the film. If it's region free and looks good, I'll pick this up.
Still hope it gets a release in the US at some point. Would love a Criterion release. |

Yeah. The current master is so bad that anything would be an improvement. (Has Second Sight paid for any new masters or do they, like most UK labels, rely on other companies to supply them masters?)
