Show us on the doll precisely where 3D hurt you.

Why wish the death of any video or audio format that has a following that happens to not include you? We live in a world where choice is possible.

I couldn't wrap my head around why Rubinstein seems to be giving US labels the cold shoulder but has no problem granting a UK company full access to the film and then it hit me - he likely stipulated that no US label is allowed to release the film until everyone and their mothers buys a copy of the UK edition. Smart move and the best way to recoup losses from his harebrained epic fail scheme to convert the film to 3-D at the tail end of the fad. And the kicker is Criterion probably has the US rights - a surefire way to get people to double dip. I'm already salivating at the thought.

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right. I think there is a good chance someone already has the rights in the US, but they have to wait a certain period of time after the UK release to release it. It might even have been a cooperation with Second Sight in restoring the film.

That's what people said about sound in the 20s.. then color... then widescreen...

It's another way to tell a story.

although i don't think 3D is trash all the things you mentioned did catch on and remain popular to this day. 3D not so much. its hard to even find a 3D TV in the Us right now.

When was the last time anyone manufactured a black and white TV in a 4:3 ratio with no speakers?

I got mine right before they stopped including 3D. The weird thing is that they're still releasing 3D blu-rays in the US, so there must be some demand.

Anyways, add me to the list of members who'd like to see Dawn of the Dead in 3D. It's not a deal-breaker or anything, but I've really been enjoying my 3D set-up.

If only projectors had become more prevalent in homes. If you've not seen Blu-Ray 3D on a projector, it's completely different than it is on a TV. To anyone who finds 3D lacking, you owe it to yourself to at least sample Blu-Ray 3D in a retail demo room.

Man. I really wish there was a company releasing this Region A. I know everyone here does the whole Region free player. But there's something that gets to my OCD when the labels aren't same. (Petty, I know)
But its truly agitating that the producer would tarnish the legacy of this movie and not give it an all out releases. There's so many people that want the Ultimate DVD edition but in blu. And there's plenty of fans waiting to learn about this amazing film.
I went to a screening of this a couple years ago with a buddy of mine and he loved it.

Seriously George deserves better. Dawn, Martin and Bruiser needed to be released on proper blu in North America. ASAP.

It's solely because Rubenstein foolishly blew about $10 million of his own money on creating a 3D version of the movie just as the fad was fading away again (is it always does), and the only way he can come close to recouping his loses is to region-lock DOTD so that, when the inevitable U.S. comes out in a year or two, he can sell it again to a different group of people, ones who -- foolishly -- refuse to go region-free.

Yes but 4K discs are region free.

It would've been nice if the Second Sight package was also including the (unofficial) Extended Mall Hours cut, which runs 154 mins. Some people do prefer that edit apparently.

Yeah, I've been following the potential release of this for like three years. Really annoying how he's handle the rights of this. At the end of the day I think he'll have to take a hit.
But I do know that a user earlier in this thread theorized that since it's getting a release over seas (and a 4k region free release to boot), that the film will get a couple of distributors to work together to buy the rights and release the title (maybe Scream+Arrow could work together). Whatever the case, I need this.

That's exactly what Second Sight is going to be giving it, though. The quality of their releases has been steadily increasing, and they're now around the same level as Arrow in terms of quality packaging as well as A/V presentation and bonus features.

It won't matter what label, if any, eventually releases this in Region A. Criterion, Shout, Kino.... none of them will outdo Second Sight, and the only way they'll even match SS's video quality is if they're able to license the David M. encode Second Sight is having done.

Even if I knew for a fact a Region A release was on the horizon, I'd go with the upcoming UK one because I know it's going to be the best possible release.

I always thought malls were a huge waste of real estate. It's just a collection of overpriced stores inside a huge building instead of along a sidewalk or in a commercial district where stores belong. Those mammoth structures have to be heated, cooled, secured and insured - twice. Then there's the added traffic and parking.
