If I want the movie on Blu, no interest in special features, where do I get it? The standard Australian version sold on Amazon UK?

The Australian release is also sold at Best Buy, though currently backordered

The Aussie release is generally the cheapest option, though it seems sold out everywhere at the moment. If you want to spring for an out of print copy I personally think the Anchor Bay looks better than the Arrow, and is cheaper, but people disagree. It depends on the viewer.

Direct from Umbrella is best.

Is the DNR really as bad as people say on the AB disc? Looking at caps-a-holic, outside of some weird glitches caused by the dirt removal, the ABdisc looks very detailed and not really much different to the Arrow disc in terms of detail.

YMMV. I think it looks fine with great colors and detail, but others say it's unwatchable. I'm sure there is room for improvement, but don't think it's nearly as bad as some make it out to be. Haven't seen the Arrow disc in action.

It's not so much the typical effect of DNR making everything look smooth and plasticky, more that it's left behind some smeary temporal artefacts whenever people move, something which is common to both the Arrow and AB.

The AB does have more ham-fisted dirt/damage removal which is a separate issue, producing some glitches which are occasionally obvious in motion (IIRC there's one near the end when Peter addresses Fran just before she goes up to the helicopter, a strange blotch appears on the screen for a split-second rather than the more normal looking damage seen in the same spot on the Arrow version).

There's not a massive difference between the two because they both use the same ratty transfer underneath with localised mastering differences, but seeing as the AB is OOP and the Arrow encode can be bought for peanuts via the Aussie Umbrella disc, I went with the latter.

Can't argue with that logic. I was happy to find the AB for $10 just after it went OOP. If amazon prices weren't a wishlist, I'd be tempted to sell it since I haven't opened my copy yet (I watched the library's copy just before picking up my own). Looks like the AB is reasonable prices on ebay, but still far more than $8 or so for the Aussie, esp with that being region free. If they look nearly the same and I was in the market, I'd go for half-price too!

I own the 3-BD Japanese set, but the colors are kinda wonky, and I own the Ultimate Edition, but it is DVD. Go for the Oz disc if I want the theatrical cut?

Got the Oz disc, can't access the Dead Will Walk documentary. PAL? Not too much of an issue, I can watch it on the AB DVD set.

So the Japanese blu-ray was sourced from SD for the opening and closing of the Argento cut? Is this the same or different with the Euro releases of the Argento cut?
