Um...okay? Consider me well and truly put in my place, I will now burn every Michael Bay film that I own.

Anyhoo, I got this in the post today and I'm loving these redos of them classic Dawn grooves: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zombi-Dawn-.../dp/B00D3ZGAU8

I don't know, Bay's movies have plenty to say. For example, don't stand too close to a giant robot or it might piss on you. A valuable life lesson.

Oh, sorry -

Original: Ben gets killed being mistaken for a zombie
Remake: Barbra gets away from the house, gets help, comes back and finds everyone dead but Mr Cooper - who she then executes, having 'mistaken' him for a zombie.

Although to be fair, it is Snyder's best film to date.

Boy, you're right! The fourth Transformers also teaches people about that handy law that allows an adult to carry on his relationship with a school-aged minor! What would we do without Mr Bay's gifts to the world?

The Euro cut is the Argento cut and is the shortest version of the well known versions. The Extended is the Cannes version. Most people want a 4K restoration of that or the US theatrical , but that ain't gonna happen for the moment

The grainy B&W cinematography is one of the originals greatest assets, it gives it this documentary "this is really happening" quality which amplified the horror of it. It's a film where the shortcomings due to it being a very low budget film, actually work in its favour, they give the film a sense of authenticity which the remake lacks. Whether it was on purpose or not, the original is also politically interesting for featuring a black lead without ever referencing his race but which also adds poignancy to the end. The remake tries for relevance by making Barbara a badass, but by 1990, after Ripley, that was hardly groundbreaking. Setting Barbara up as the lead in the original and then having her spend much of the film in a catatonic state due to her being in shock was surprising and yet believable.
yes. her inaction shifts our focus to Ben which only makes the end that more devastating.

well played, sir.

the opening to the dawn remake is great. but this is a movie that really doesn't hold up on multiple viewings. that cash song at the beginning might be one of the high points of the movie. this is gonna sound crazy... but I'd say sucker punch is snyder's best movie.

I haven't even watched that one. I've heard almost only terrible things about it, many of which are from younger people plugged into the outrage-o-sphere (I'm sure the middle-aged man demographic here thinks it's feminist). Regarding the actual ENTERTAINMENT VALUE and VISUALS, I have no idea

I love Sucker Punch, couldn't give a toss about the politics of it either way but the action is insane.

Be aware that there are two US Blu ray releases of Day of the Dead with very different transfers.

Personally, I like the Scream Factory release and sold my Anchor Bay disc.

This video of a 35mm projection shows that the Scream Factory transfer is probably closer to the original image...

If you like the warmer color palette for Day, this is the one to get. If you like the cooler color palette, you've got a lot of investigating to do because there are further issues of censored audio on some releases and squished/squashed image. I just picked up the Umbrella disc for Dawn, but haven't had a chance to watch it yet. On a casual viewing, the Anchor Bay version didn't bother me, but there are some DNR issues apparent on caps. In terms of availability and price, I think the Umbrella disc here is the way to go. Grab it quick since it's OOP.

Is that Aussie disc really objectively the best? Pretty sure people disagree. I have the Anchor Bay and while it looks kinda crappy I don't think it's worth buying again until we get a remaster.

I think it looks rougher but a lot warmer?? I dunno. I like how it looks more than the AB caps I've seen. I've seen a bunch of people say the Happinet is the best (I think it's also colder).

I can't handle the ghost/blur on the AB/Arrow discs (seen here in the phantom outlines to the left of Fran).

Happinet all the way for me though I'm looking forward to that upcoming 4K Zombie that's being worked on, and better discs to come after that and so on.
