That's my order in for the 4K set. The player can come later. Do Amazon.it do pre-order price guarantee? I hope it drops again, seems to have gone back up by the time I decided to take the plunge.

I may put my pre-order in also and hope the price drops back down. I know the 4K UHD disc will be region free

Tempted to buy the new set but really wish they'd just rerelease it here.

I just started my collection in May and have scooped up about 80% of the titles I want that I can get for $10 or less. Starting to get to the point where my want list are mostly titles that'll be $15 or more and the last 6 months have made me a tight wad.

I've looked over the specs of the new set but still new to blu ray pricing swings. Any chance the new release will lead to the US one dropping down below $30 on ebay and maybe here in trading forums or will the % of people upgrading be too small?

Is the theatrical cut a new HD transfer, or the same as the old Anchor Bay disc?

What I'm really interested in though is details of the Cannes Cut HD transfer, as that's now my preferred version of the film.

I'd get this but fear there is a chance the Italian subs will be burned-in...

I watched my copy of the Anchor Bay disc this weekend. Only my second time seeing the film. It really is great! The wife liked it too. She thought the Snyder version was scarier, but that's a value-neutral comment as she's not a horror fan at all.

Can't we just get a 4K remastered Blu-ray with all cuts and all the Anchor Bay extras in the U.S.?

I am fully aware of the Argento involvement but why do the Italians get all the fun? There's plenty of people in the U.S. who would buy a set like the one I described, which is just the Anchor Bay Ultimate Edition but remastered.

Because Richard Rubenstein wants an arm and a leg for the North American rights to fund his failed 3D conversion.

TBH if it wasn't for the Italian cut being another different version then there'd be no foreign-only fun here at all, for the reason stated above. The Italian version has pre-print elements available that are free from Rubinstein's clutches - both physically and legally - so it was ripe for being remastered as long as someone was willing to front up the cash to do so. Not that that itself came cheap, but I'd imagine it's still cheaper than what Rubinstein's asking.

Soooo...what your sayin' is that I should just enjoy my Ultimate DVD and U.S. blu, right?

Bummer.

I get the whole hell freezes over thing, but I really have zero interest in the Italian cut and would just end up watching my old Anchor Bay blu anyway. I will wait and hope for a US remaster someday.

Why is the UHD-BD using Rec. 709 when on your blog it's stated that the 4K restoration was color corrected in DCI P3 colorspace?

Good question. For legacy masters like what Turbine were given for their German UHD release of TCM then I can understand them being in 709, but for a brand new master like this the opportunity was definitely there for a WCG encode. I'm not complaining mind you, it's just be nice to know what their thought process was.

I'm not responsible for that decision, as a perfectionist I would have done a Rec. 2020 master for the UHD master but like I stated here before, only 0.27% of the shots in Dawn of the Dead (RAW scan) are out of the Rec. 709 gamut so therefore, I understand that for monetary reason they didn't bother creating a second master.

I think everyone should be happy that the UHD Blu-ray is not HDR.
