I try not to buy too much from Japan. I think my only Japanese Bluray is the Columbo set.

I thought the 4k restoration was the Argento cut only?

That's a shame about the error on the Zombi cut. Was going to order but I'll hold off and see if there's a repressing. Been looking at screencaps for the JP/AT theatrical/extended cuts with the correct levels fix, and while imperfect, they do look better than what we had before, that's tempting me more than the 4K Zombi remaster.

It is, but the other cuts are reportedly the best presentation yet (but still an old master).

Does this have ALL of the extras from the 4-disc Anchor Bay DVD set?

I bought this set mainly to have the other cuts in HD to be honest. Don't really care for the Argento cut. I simply don't see this set being replicated anywhere else any time soon so IMO this is worth picking up just to have all the films in HD.

This movie desperately needs a new blu-ray release. Both Arrow and Anchor Bay look bad.

The Italian release has its own exclusive extras so make sure you hold on to that Anchor Bay DVD set, still one of the best sets of all time.

Virtually every comment refers to a kind of "flickering" of the grain in motion and a problematic image stability (inherent to the source, I guess). Some even wrote about some obvious dithering and light DNR filters applied.
There seems to be even some sequences where dialogues randomly switch from a speaker to another.
I'd definitely wait for some news from the label regarding replacements.
They make it seem like some sort of complete disaster. I'm no expert in these sort of matters but I find it hard to take someone seriously when they say the DVD transfer is better.

Also, I've had a look at the screen comparison...

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/191409

I see one of them has less grain, but the detail still seems to be there. What sort of other specific issues are there?

It doesn't look like it does, at least based on what's listed on the back cover. I should have mine soon From Amazon IT.

Is the Happinet release of the extended cut worth picking up? Is it a noticeable improvement over the old Anchor Bay DVD box version?

Same encode, huh? That means it also has incorrect black levels, blown out highlights and moiré artifacts.

My copy came today and I can confirm that the blacks and highlights are messed up on the theatrical & extended discs. Other than that the transfer used for both cuts looks good though.

The Argento cut looks great. I kinda wish I bought the UHD release now, I'm suddenly very curious about the full frame version haha!

I wonder how many movies will have to be affected for this to become common knowledge. Maybe Sony could've done some good work educating the public by doing this to all those discs rather than the crushing.
