They had 20 earlier today. I think purchased it around copy 18ish

I figured I'd take a chance on the set. Been dying to rewatch the different cuts of the film. I figure if I wear out the Argento cut by the time the US cut gets a remaster BLU release it will be like watching a new cut.

Man I really hope the rights issue get sorted out soon. Those caps of the Argento cut look great.

To my knowledge there is no rights issue, Richard Rubenstein owns the film. He wants way too much money for it. To be honest I would rather have a BD of Martin than DotD which he also holds the US rights for.

Looks like I'll have to use Google Translate to get the most out of the booklet.

Eventually either he'll break or some label will take a risk and pay up and make a laserdisc style boutique release out of it. I believe!!!

(not really )

I think the film would be worth the investment for any label with enough money who wanted a guaranteed top seller. They could sell copies of restored versions of all the cuts in paper sleeves or eco cases and they would still sell a shitload of units; a fancy box set that surpasses the old Anchor Bay release would probably outsell anything released in the last 5 years. Make it region-free and you're gonna have a tough time keeping it stocked. It's THAT kind of deal.

...and yet given all that, no-one's bit the bullet and ponied up for it which ably demonstrates how silly Rubinstein's asking price must be. He mentioned at a recent screening that a certain company known for its collector's editions has shown interest and I'm thinking that that's GOT to be Shout - but even they have limits.

Hell, if Shout were to do some kind of kickstarter to raise the money to prise the negative out of New Amsterdam's vaults and do a 4K resto then I'd drop several clams into that bucket right this goddamned second.

What needs to happen is for maybe Shout and Synapse to get together and share the costs for rights. Get it done!

I've heard through numerous sources that Rubenstein's asking price is somewhere in the six figure range which is LUDICROUS for licensing a single film. Even with two companies getting together to split the cost, it's apparently still very high.

I hope some kind of negotiation can take place because it's a damn near shame that this film has yet to have a truly proper edition here in the states along with the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Both definitely deserve definitive editions and the hoopla holding them up is just ridiculous.

I'm surprised that no company has released a copy of "Night of the Living Dead" stateside. Maybe someone will scoop up that recent 4K print. I don't know how the copies of the films are in other countries.

Well, we've just had Arrow and Shout partnering up on TLADILA, so them two needs to GET IT ON when it comes to Dawn. Shout can do the extras - preferably another excellent full-length documentary like they did for Day, not just a load of talking head clips - and Arrow can do another of their magnificent 4K restorations. Match made in heaven IMO.

Amen to that. The only thing holding me back from the Italian release is that only my least favorite cut received a 4K new transfer. But the open matte version is appealing in many ways. I do wish whoever gets Dawn in the US will go all out box set like Arrow's Hellraiser or Nightbreed style heavy cardboard slip with inserts.

Not yet no, I was watching Catching Fire in UHD when Mr Postman rang with my latest haul and now I'm on here talking to you fine people. I feel like launching straight into Mockingjay Pt 1 later but I'll have a quick squiz at Dawn beforehand.

I have a feeling when this does finally get released in the States it won't have the Argento cut.

I would think the new remaster of Night of the Living Dead would go to Synapse since Don worked on the first official release back in 1996 on the Elite laserdisc.
