I wish it was. I'm probably just going to rip my Blu-ray copy and put it on my iPad at this point. I don't think Day of the Dead is either.

^ A list of all the sites where Day of the Dead can currently be streamed/rented/purchased digitally.

Dawn of the Dead isn't available anywhere.

Last I checked that's an "opinions differ" thing, but either way we all want a new master.

If you go to Rubenstein's site, there "Martin" and "Dawn of the Dead" sit, in plain sight, saying, "For licensing, please contact...."

Then, of course, whenever anyone does, he's asking like SEVEN figures to license them. Ridiculous.

They're popular cult titles, but not "Star Wars" or something.

^ And in return for a much higher price he's also apparently offering a much shorter window of opportunity to the rights. It's such a great deal, it's no wonder everyone's beating down his door wanting to licence Dawn. What? Oh.

Makes me wonder how many times he has been contacted by studios with reasonable counter-offers, which he turns down. Or is he on the shitlist and getting no response except smaller labels begging for a deal?

Given that he's happy to licence out other properties for what must be reasonable terms I guess it still comes back around to this damned 3D conversion for Dawn, he wants to make sure he gets his money back on it. Didn't someone say that he was holding out for a theatrical distributor to come a callin', rather than just a home video licensee?

That has to be what's going on. I just can't believe he thought spending the money to do a 3D conversion was a good idea.

Yeah. For the 'big event' type movies, Disney classics and grand old dames like Wizard of Oz, fine, I can see the thinking there because they have a built-in theatrical outlet to claw a few $$$ back, coming from the major studios as they do. But to do it off your own back and then just hope that the Good Cinema Witch will then float down in a bubble and grant you a theatrical release of your unrated zombie movie was kinda naive.

But then I doubt that Rubinstein paid for it in cash, perhaps he needed money from investors and without first settling those debts he can't move on the film.

Quick question...

Does the Umbrella BD use the Arrow transfer or the even more DNR'ed Anchor Bay transfer?

I'm pretty sure it's the Arrow transfer. Best to get a second opinion on this.

The Umbrella release uses the same encode as the Arrow release. For what it's worth, though, the Anchor Bay release presents the film in its OAR and with mono audio.

The Umbrella has PCM mono, it's just not mentioned on the packaging or even the menu, you have to select it manually.

Does that mean that you have to change the audio whilst the film is playing?

Also slightly off topic but doesn't the Arrow BD have a stereo downmix instead of the original mono mix?

According to Rewind:

"Umbrella: The mono track is not listed in the menus. You must use your BD player's remote to access it. It is the same mono downmix as found on the Arrow release."

That's as may be, but because the 5.1 is so respectful anyway it's not the most ghastly downmix you'll ever hear.

Just sticking with the four-disc DVD set until there's a proper U.S. BD release.

But the Arrow release doesn't have any mono options. The 2.0 track isn't dual mono, it's stereo.
