Survival of the Dead was actually pretty decent, I liked it a lot more than Land of the Dead, and it's not found footage.

Oh, I read it was the first direct sequel so I assumed it was the same style. Still, would have to watch Diary first I am guessing?

I skipped Diary and found Survival to be enjoyable. I didn't get the impression that I was missing anything. Go in with an open mind and you might be surprised.

Survival of the Dead is more a spinoff than a direct sequel, and it doesn't really matter if you see both films or which order you see them in. The two films share a timeline, but the point of intersection is relatively small and insignificant.

Survival of the Dead can be seen to take place in the same timeline as Land of the Dead.

Diary of the Dead is a modern day Night of the Living Dead through the eyes of another group of people. You've got to stretch credibility that NOTLD and this take place in the same time, but if you can get past that it works even if it's far from Romero's best work.

One of the main characters in Survival, a corrupt National Guardsmen, has a single scene in Diary. So watching it first is not mandatory. But if you already own it, why not?

Diary is okay. I rewatched it recently, and it's actually funny how in a relatively short amount of time, its "message" has been completely inverted. It's an indictment of the mainstream media, and shows how people turn to the internet for truth. Except nowadays, the internet is full of more bullshit, and real "fake news," than anybody could have imagined!

If anything, avoid Survival. It's absolute garbage. Except, if you already own it, then why not?

I started watching both of them at various times and never got more than 10 minutes in. That's amusing about the message of "Diary." One of these days I'll force myself...

Oh, if anything, I'd say the opposite.

I think Romero was (again) rather ahead of the curve with the commentary here. The film is filled with self-serious would-be filmmakers who are so obsessed with "getting this" that they put themselves in harm's way repeatedly, and seem to get an invincibility kick out of "sharing their story" (a phrase I never want to hear or use again) and being part of history.

The way people chronicle their experiences online (to the detriment of every other consideration) hadn't quite reached such absurdist levels when Romero made the film, but we're definitely there now.

Talking about the original Dawn?
If so, I don't believe AB ever did a second pressing/printing. If they did, I got my copy just after it was known OOP, so last minute for sure, but new in a retail store (Meijer) and it has the inner art. So my guess would be bootlegs won't have the inner art, or maybe I got extra lucky.

As long as Richard P. Rubinstein still wants a six-figure sum for distribution rights, the chance of a new Blu-ray release is (sadly) unlikely.

Yep, the theatrical and extended versions, the European one can be released (in Europe, anyway).

I don’t think it’s ever been said for sure how much he’s asking for other than it’s a lot. Which that could mean anything really. I still think someone will work out a deal with him soon. A movie this popular doesn’t just get forgotten and unreleased.
