Yeah, I guess you're right. New transfers are great. 2007 blu-rays are a bucket of lukewarm vomit and this one talked some smack about my mama.

I think it had an underwhelming response and somebody took that for it not being worthwhile to release in 2d which sucks.

Huh? No, he charged theaters an insane amount to show it, so barely any of them would. He's basically still trying to shop it around and get theaters to show it, meaning it only pops up here and there. It's not a lack of interest, it's a lack of interest at a price point that would make it impossible for any but specific kinds of repertory theaters to turn a profit.

The 2D is held up because he won't let the rights go for anything remotely approaching reasonable amounts. It's been hypothesized many times that this is largely because he took such a huge hit on the 3D conversion (it cost millions of dollars) that he's trying to recoup the terrible investment by trying to hold out for a huge payday that will never come. Some evidence for that would be he allowed releases before dumping his millions into that 3D conversion but has since held the film for hostage.

Ah. Sorry. Thanks for the particulars. From those folks I'd heard had seen it in 3d, the report was that it was, predictably, unnecessary. Didn't think fans were interested in a 3d conversion of this.

I tried the 2d to 3d setting on my 3D TV for Day of The Dead and it looked cool. But then again Day has a lot of long shots with depth so 3D would look cool. Dawn never seemed right for 3D, not saying Day should be converted but I think it would have been the more logical film for that. I'm sure it was never given a thought since was not nearly as financially successful as Dawn.

I just got the Midnight Factory single-disc blu-ray of the Argento cut and I'm very happy with it. Granted, it's never been a great looking film to begin with, but I'm seeing a lot of detail here that I didn't see on my Anchor Bay DVDs. For roughly $18 shipped, I'm good with this until something better comes along (if ever).

anyone who goes to his q&a screenings ask why he's holding the film hostage.

It seems to me he is just trying to get all his lost 3D money back up front, which no studio is going to pay.

Now if he would license for a reasonable amount, he'd get his ****ing money back from royalties! Bring that up if at a Q & A. Maybe work out a new royalty structure if need be. Then everyone could win as the fans could get a nice new transfer and a hold of the movie they want. Put out the 3D version a while later, and follow that with a box like the dvd had, no doubt he'd get his loot back. Simple answers.

At least this isn't like the situation with The Abyss, where there is no good alternative to hold us off until the day comes it's finally re-released. Anyone who owns a copy of the excellent (and ground-breaking at the time) Anchor Bay DVD set is good to go until then. I've tried watching that ancient letterboxed DVD of The Abyss and can't make it through 20 minutes.

Figured I'd share this with the world, since it's one of my most prized possessions...signed by the Man himself back in 2013 at Texas Frightmare Weekend in Dallas, TX. It's priceless.

Netflix UK. It looks amazing even on streaming. Imagine what it'll look like with a full on restoration?

Until 4K remasters of the theatrical and Cannes cuts come out, the transfers on the Italian set is fine enough for me.

Why haven’t we gotten a Ultimate Edition Blu-ray set like we did on DVD anyway? Rights issues, I assume?
