Law Man is the only one that stands out to me, being a 70's Michael Winner movie. Will watch some footage.

As always, out of respect for HTF's exclusive sneak-peak announcement window, I will not be updating the first post of this thread until TT officially announces these titles on their Facebook page sometime later today.

SEPTEMBER (1987) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

HOUR OF THE GUN (1967) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

LAWMAN (1971) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

BENEATH THE TWELVE MILE REEF (1953) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

GUN FURY 3D (1953) BLU-RAY - Sept 19th

Wow, what an outstanding month! Some of my favorite stars this month in some great films. If you are like me and can't get enough of Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan, this month is cinematic nirvana .......Burt Lancaster and Robert Ryan together in a terrific Michael Winner western; James Sturges gives us a his take on the Watt Earp Tombstone story, with a little help from James Garner and Robert Ryan; and Raoul Walsh goes 3D with a much anticipated Rock Hudson classic. We also get more Woody Allen goodness and a personal wish list title from director Robert Webb about.....sponge diving, featuring an iconic Bernard Herrmann score.
While I liked Hour of the Gun more than Gunfight at the OK Corral, I don't like it enough to buy. Though always good to see more Sturges. I'll pass on these and try to get some of the TT Blu-Rays like Bridge At Remagen and The Young Lions(if its stock doesn't run out).

HOUR OF THE GUN is one of my favorites, mostly because of the Jerry Goldsmith score. A must-have Blu-ray for me.

That is a solid slate of announcements! And three DVDs go to the trade pile.

I like Lawman and am interested to know about the version being used. The British DVD has Sheree North toplessness that is not in the US edition, but the British edition also has some violence cut out. I'm guessing it's too much to hope for a composite version.

Just watched Our Man in Havana. Great little film with some clever plot progression and strong performances. My thanks to the smart people in this thread that recommended it to me earlier.
So now I have another question for the People Who Know Things on this forum.
Is the Valachi Papers any good? The premise intrigues me and I like the director.

That is another DVD I will be upgrading .

Looks like TT is expecting the Jackie Chan double header either Monday or Tuesday. Sent an inquiry today and received a very polite response from "Randy" within a few minutes .

I like the westerns for September but I can wait to get them later. Nothing urgent for me this time around.

Short answer: yes.

Longer answer:

The Valachi Papers was shot at a time when common wisdom had it that gangster pictures were box-office poison, so the very American tale of Charles Bronson’s Cosa Nostra soldier spilling the beans on his life in the mob in return for protection by the Feds ended up being shot at Dinocitta (as in Dino de Laurentiis) in Italy with French money and an English director (Terence Young, reunited with Dr No villains Joseph Wiseman – wonderfully hammy here - and Anthony Dawson) only to end up being discounted as a Godfather ripoff when Coppola’s film became a surprise huge hit. Based on Joe Valachi’s testimony that lifted the veil on the way the mob worked and was organized after years of denial of its very existence by J. Edgar Hoover, it’s a well-crafted and enjoyable saga with none of the operatic grandeur that Coppola, Leone and De Palma would bring to the genre. There’s not much in the way of historical or social context, more a catalog of hits and internecine feuding, but it’s done with some flair and is surprisingly entertaining. Bronson makes a good lead, with decent support from Walter Chiari and Lino Ventura, both surprisingly well dubbed. Unfortunately Mrs Bronson, Jill Ireland, is along too and on dependably weak form, but she’s not in it enough to do any damage.

The Rebecca release has two newly created extras, an interview with a film scholar and an interview with a special effects historian. Everything else is ported over from a previous release, which seems pretty apples and oranges to me, since the point is (I believe) that Criterion has cut back on producing substantial new extras lately.

Thanks for this. I hadn't read much about the film, and would have likely passed it by as I'm not a big Bronson fan and the genre mostly doesn't appeal. But the combination of Terence Young, Joseph Wiseman, and Anthony Dawson is very appealing (all brilliant in Dr. No, and love Dawson in Dial M For Murder). Add Lino Ventura for good measure, and Bronson himself, and The Valachi Papers is now firmly on my wish list.

For those interested, looks like the TT movie site received stock of the Jackie Chan double feature and those orders are getting shipped .

This isn't encouraging... I thought the Eureka release fixed that issue. Did TT just ignore that release?

It's the same Cantonese track used in the previous DVD release (not TT)...the exact same issue occurs there. I was very disappointed when I started playing the movie and this happened as I did not read the disclosure before purchasing it.

DM does have a noticeable PQ improvement over the DVD...the visuals look very nice and the print used is in great shape .
