Until I see well go winning over super label Arrow I say leave it off until we get a good comparison. Maybe just maybe well go will win on some exclusive extras but PQ....don't think so

Has anyone seen the Japanese release of Timeline? The label's page for it says it's 1080p. I couldn't find a detailed review anywhere to confirm, though.

Unfortunately, the film is terrible especially when compared to the novel.

I don't disagree about the quality of the movie, but I wouldn't mind adding a proper 1080p release to the collection. I'm not interested in a sped-up 1080i/25 option.

I agree with that. I just haven't seen any caps or comments on the JP release.

I might risk throwing it into a future order from Japan, and hope the 1080p info is correct. If I do I'll report back here, of course.

Updated The Story of the Last Chrysanthemum. The JP disc is still the one to get unless you want all of the extras on the Criterion disc.

Actually, it is the R-rated cut.

[Show spoiler]I checked the scene where Harmon is dismembered and put through the meat grinder. The JP disc pans to Leatherface after the first hand is detached, and when it switches back to Harmon, the second hand has already been detached. In the unrated cut, you actually see the chainsaw drag across the floor and the saw going all the way through the wrist.

I checked this with the comparison on Movie-Censorship, and it is almost certainly the R-rated version. The running time difference is due to studio logos before the film. The opening credits, however, start with "Lionsgate Films presents", so Happinet probably took their materials from Lionsgate.

So this is still the case.

I think overall the DE release looks a little more natural and film-like. The Shout edition isn't bad; it seems to have some slight sharpening and a hair less fine detail. I didn't realize the DE disc is apparently missing English subtitles for Russian scenes.

Despite the slight sharpening the Shout disc has better compression.

And shout don't have blue whites or missing detail like in the fire for example so shout it is!
