Yeah, the Renoir, Dreyer & that one would be at the top of my list.

The 50% off sales actually help. Ironically, if the price was regularly 50% off, then people would put off buying things. Having the sales a few times a year prompts people to buy. Especially when the sales are timed around popular releases.

As for libraries, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they've cut back in physical media purchases. It's a reality we all must face.

But I'll tell you this. There is no way I'd be spending $40 to $50 on a single title. So if Criterion were to drop the 50% off sales then I'd no longer be a buying customer. I also have the Criterion Channel (charter member), so I'd have to live with that.

Upgrades of Monsters & Madmen and The Orphic Trilogy would be day one buys for me.

I don't think there'd be much of a reason to upgrade the Golden Age of Television. The image and sound quality will never be great.

Potentially as early as Friday -- if not the 28th, the almost certainly the 4th

EDIT
Just spoke with someone on the phone trying to get a heads up on the Criterion Sale, but no information yet, but they did say it appears
the ARROW Sale goes to Nov 28

Agreed. I finally grabbed this during the last flash sale - the content is great, but it's tough getting used to those kinescope recordings in the current age of HD/UHD.

True. And though I'd be curious to see what a modern scan & restoration of 16mm kinescope would look like, warts and all, I can't imagine who would undertake such a project. Do the original elements survive?

If you want to see what it does look like, look at the original version of 12 Angry Men, which is a bonus on its film adaptation's release.

Pages for 2 of Kira Muratova's films are now up on the Janus site, Brief Encounters and The Long Farewell.

UK Label Second Run is releasing the Wajda trilogy on region-free blu-ray. But all the films are based on 2K restorations, unlike Criterion's 4K resto source for Ashes & Diamonds.

That was incredible! I never even saw this closet visit before. Nobody is going to ever top Jenkins. Now the question is, who took the FEWEST Criterions in the closet? I remember someone only took 3 in his visit, but I don't remember who it was.

I never saw anyone put so many titles back on the shelf. If that was a library, the librarian would have gone after him.

With that said, I got so much insight with his "less is more" approach over Jenkins' frantic raid of the closet.

Yes, and BFI has the Dreyer films in a set as well. Criterion released the least known Dreyer film as a standalone bd then went silent for 8 years. Baffling. I should've given up hope for a CC release long ago.

Criterion has released Vampyr and The Passion of Joan of Arc since Master of the House (which I wouldn’t say is his least known - there’s the one he disowned as well as a couple other silents which weren’t widely accessible.)

Sorry, I should have clarified that i was focusing on that DVD box set that includes Gertrud, Day of Wrath, and The Word. The BFI set is centered around those three features as well, plus Master of the House (hence my grouping). Of those four films Master of the House is the least well known.

He did take a broom and some bleach from their janitor's closet too.

Day of Wrath and Ordet are masterpieces that I so wish had Region-A Blu-ray releases.

Almost jumped at this as well, before I remembered that I would want the 4K version.
