Sad. His book with Kristin Thompson (Film Art: An Introduction) opened my eyes to film analysis. I was thrilled to see that my son is reading a new edition of it in his intro to film studies class, more than 25 years after I first read it!

Sad news. I read "Film Art: An Introduction," in college and was blown away by it. It completely reshaped my perspective on film theory/criticism and filmmaking as a whole.

Plus, I ordered 2 hrs into the flash sale and still no ship confirmation.
Not a Fox title, it is a Disney title however, via their buying ABC.

I assumed that many here would have read that text in college. Unfortunately I only developed a serious interest in film after school, but Bordwell's Observations on Film Art videos on the Criterion Channel (and previously FilmStruck) as well as his appearances in Criterion's supplements really nurtured that interest to the point where I bought the textbook on my own just for the pleasure of learning.

If still talking dream 2024 releases, that non-Godzilla Honda set is very much near the top of my list.

Hah, I've seen more films than that. I watch all my films on my cell phone. I particularly like to watch films in public places like a waiting room, a restaurant or on a train.

Ear buds? What are those, some kind of flower?

I pre ordered Werckmeister Harmonies really looking forward to watching this for the first time ever. Also more black and white films to add to my collection. And Harakiri got delivered today the one title I got from the Flash sale. I'm also planning on getting The Elephant Man this year as that title has been on my backlog for years.

Any chance of a Criterion "White Heat" release? It would go great with High Sierra, and Roaring Twenties.

Does anyone know if Criterion has a current, active deal with Paramount?

They had an old deal, notable titles included Rosemary’s Baby, Nashville, and Harold And Maude, but that deal has most likely ended.

1. Has the deal that included Rosemary’s Baby etc in fact ended?

2. If the deal hasn’t ended, was it extended at the last minute, or did it never end in the first place?

3. If the deal has ended, has a new deal been made between Criterion and Paramount?

I know I’ve asked this repeatedly, but I’ve never gotten an answer. I thought about sending Criterion/Mulvaney an email, but Mulvaney/whoever answers those emails doesn’t like to discuss office politics, making it very unlikely that they’d answer me.

+1 for Criterion upgrading their DVD-only titles. My 4 DVD's are Armageddon, Chasing Amy, The Rock and Missing.

The DC of Armageddon is only on that DVD and the Criterion laserdisc. Say what you want about Bay and his quality or lack thereof, a Criterion 4K of both cuts of Armageddon would be a Day One purchase.

Just don’t be surprised if the Aerosmith video isn’t included. The song will still be there, but the video will probably get removed.

Same. I ordered within a few mins of the sale going live, so they probably process/fulfill in order.

Although during their previous flash sale it took several days for them to ship my order.

I feel like they might still have some kind of deal with Paramount. Since those titles in particular went OOP, we still had La Dolce Vita through the Essential Fellini Boxset and also new 4K UHDs for Days of Heaven and Don't Look Now (And they were also re-released with standard edition Blu-rays by Paramount sometime between the OOP date and the UHD re-release). We definitely won't be getting Rosemary's Baby since they just released the 4K UHD last year and Harold and Maude can still happen.

I don't know if the deal has ended per say, but I think it would make sense if the deal has been renewed or been extended for the 4K UHDs that we have been seeing as of late. This is different from Criterion and StudioCanal, which sounds like they striked up a new deal to bring back some of the OOP titles after they all went out by 2013.

Whether the old deal has ended or been renewed, they definitely still have some kind of contract or deal with Paramount.

On a side note, I would personally love a 4K UHD of Chinatown this year but rumors have been saying that Paramount will most likely release this one on their own (Which is fine by me as long as they don't screw up the A/V stuff. An original mono track included would be nice but I don't think they'll do that).

The special features have been rejiggered around as well, so Jeanne Dielman not only has a new (2020) transfer but also higher bitrate overall than the 2017 Blu.
It's a new encode of Jeanne Dielman, but it's still sourced from the same master, and the review you linked to does say there's no discernible difference.
