Matewan looks like a great release. Extras seems awesome.

Can't wait to see the look of the new transfer!

Well that's a huge disappointment after the days of delay. I hoped we would at least get something new in the horror adjacent realm for October. Bummer.

Matewan for me. When We Were Kings might have been more tempting if I didn't already own Soul Power.

Nice upgrade on the OOP Sternberg! I'll also be picking up Matewan and Häxan.

I'll pick up 'Matewan' as I haven't seen it since screenwriting 101 in undergrad and those extras look enticing too. 'Haxan' will probably end up being a last-minute splurge during one of the sales .

Next week should be interesting. I'm still holding out hope it's 'Dawn of the Dead'.

It's pretty standard and hardly worth the three days of hype, though.

The clue was William S. Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg (both from the Beat Generation) "dream"ing of being King of the Beats.

Bad clue, but that's the best answer anyone has come up with. It's definitely not Gast though, as he is not recognizable (especially to the degree Burroughs and Ginsberg are) so that wouldn't quite gel with typical Criterion newsletter clues when an actual person is part of a clue.
It turns out, it was definitely Gast

It's not like Criterion intended to delay it for 3 days. They fully planned to announce spine 1000 on the 15th, but I'm sure whatever issue *cough*Toho*cough* tied their hands, and instead of waiting any longer, they said F it and just announced the ones they could announce for now. I'm sure every day they thought they would be able to announce 1,000 only to not have it happen.

Matewan is a most wanted title from me. It was one I put on my Criterion page of titles I want! This is super exciting for me! I’m also in for When We Were Kings and Von Sternberg upgrade!

Haxan for me! Criterion is saying stay tuned for a BIG announcement next week regarding spine #1000.

It just makes sense that it's a boxset and that boxset will be Godzilla.

I really don't see why they couldn't have done this two days ago, unless there was an additional holdup with one or more of the now-announced titles as well.

And on top of that there are a couple of upgrades and a couple of releases we already knew were coming, which contributes even further to the "meh" reaction.
