Thank you for the information. I am still curious as to the difference between that area (white ring, bronzed or semi-bronzed) on the disc. But thanks again.

Your concern is understandable. After all, what if the rest of the disc continues to become unglued? Sooner or later, the data part might be affected.

Can people look at their copies of 'Benjamin Button'? It remains on the list of potentially affected titles due to being in the same time frame, but my question is whether or not Criterion was even involved in the manufacturing angle? It was distributed through Paramount original and now Warner. My Paramount distributed disc has markings that do not match any other Criterion disc I own.

If it never was, then it really shouldn't be on the list, or on the list but crossed out with a note stating that it isn't affected by the issue.

I'm fairly sure that Paramount handled distribution for Benjamin Button, despite the Criterion moniker.

It was. Criterion produced all the extras, Paramount handled everything else.

In any case, the discs were pressed at Sony, not Sonopress/Arvato, so there shouldn't be any problem.

I am a little bit confused by this thread, is it only the first printing of the mentioned titles from Criterion that are effected, meaning that most titles that have these problems are purchased years ago, or have anyone found issues with very recent purchased discs?

I have no idea how often Criterion re-print batches of discs.

I just checked my copy of M. It's playing and doesn't look warped. It looks like it says IFIL 101L on the inner ring. I only bought my copy a year or two ago so maybe it's not affected. *fingers crossed*

I hope it's okay to post this here:

My copy of the Digibook edition of the Big Lebowski (https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-B...-Blu-ray/24464) has completely bronzed and will not play.

IFPI LB42 Arvato Digital Services

(same services as used in the Criterion collection faulty discs)

Not a high value blu like the Criterions (my "M" disc was affected by this), but it's worth noting. Kinda sucks these are popping up with other blus...

Any chance you could try reading the IFPI codes on the disc?

Yes, I've also included this in my original post for posterity.

Thanks! Unfortunately, that sounds like bad news for anything we have in our collections that was manufactured there.

I'm adding your information to the OP.

I know lionsgate isn't on here, but I just bought House of 1000 Corpses & Jacob's Ladder at Wal-Mart Friday. Well, Ladder plays great, Corpses on the other hand is giving me trouble. Played all of the full movie the first time, like it should, but I tried watching it again and it freezes at 11 min every time. Going back to Wal-Mart tomorrow to exchange it for another copy, see if that works. Is this a known problem with the Corpses Blu-ray or did I just get a bad disc?

P.S. I'm also posting here because it's the most active.

Both... neither... who knows. Those early lionsgate disks were all sorts of funky. Some I have from the initial batch have never given me troubles. Others haven't been so lucky. 1 in particular, "Saw" stopped working completely. I've heard the original batch was manufactured poorly which is why they stopped working completely, but your House of 1000 Corpses isn't from that initial batch as it was acquired recently. I've also heard that the BD-Java software can cause all sorts of bugs which has been confirmed by several users. In this case the best I can say is to ensure your players firmware is up to date, and if it is, to try turning off the network connection as sometimes that can cause issues with loading as well.

For the record, my copy of The Big Lebowski DigiBook is a Sony pressing: L321/L322. Can't quite read the Mould SID, but it looks like O??J. The second character could be a "W" or "M" and the third a "Z" or "2". At any rate, this copy isn't bronzing, and when I last took a look at it a couple of months ago, it seemed to play OK.

this is what I've said from the beginnning. we're going to have a LOT more titles show up from that pressing plant. we just don't know which ones will be affected until we check them. I'm guessing it will be in the hundreds of titles when we find out the extent of the damage

(Luckily mine is from a very recent pressing from somewhere else LVsomething)

on a side note. STILL nothing back from contacting Criterion... getting mildly irritated. been over 3 weeks and not a reply to EITHER of my emails.

well, if we're gong by that logic then we can't trust ANY blu-ray. since my pressing (an several others who've chimed in) are at completely different plants and companies
