The only reason I ask is because the online guide on their website says to have stuff like that shut off and I just wanted to make sure it was the same thing or not.

But yay me for already having a reduced brightness "4000-nit mode"!
What film are you referring to in the linked post? I've scrolled around that thread a bit and can't find enough context to figure out what "HoHW" stands for.

Hell or High Water. There's a very slow panning shot right at the start of the film and it's nasty in HDR. It's still awful in SDR but HDR makes it that lil' bit worse.

I agree, off sounds like it disables HDR from the player. Similar to strip metadata found on the OPPO.

That is just a guess though.

We recommend shutting off various image processing that alter the artistic intent. HDR auto/off does not fit into that category since its not a post process. Now the SDR to HDR conversion in a TV is another matter.

No wonder I couldn't figure it out; I've never heard of it.

I have created a spreadsheet with some plots of what the HDR Optimizer is doing. One setting per tab (at the bottom of the xlsx).

One comment - could we get a change in the background music for the demo materials ?

Easier said that done. The rights to sync music to video is extremely expensive. Ever notice how some shows have different music from original release vs. streaming or disc? e.g. House. It is usually a cost related.

For our first edition, we licensed 6-seconds of Super Speedway (the race car in front of bleachers) Those six seconds were $2,000 for five years. That is MUCH cheaper than the rights to use music synced to video. An example stock footage site charges $150 per second to license 8K footage for a one-time use.

I am going to ask someone about a 7.1.6 mix for next year, but not sure what it will cost. We had originally spoken with him for this disc, but ended up using music we had already licensed.

Does House have dubbed opening credits on all releases now? I though it was just outside the US.

I’m glad you post these things here. I always try to explain to people who expect studio selling discs for only $10 a pop just because they know the price per each disc replication cost of merely cents.

None of them calculate the production cost, cover, case, licensing, authoring, etc etc etc etc. Plus stores will not be happy if they can only make $2 per disc for all disc.

It did when it was on Netflix and it does now on Amazon in the US. There are a couple of episodes later in S1 that have the original, but the rest is that other stuff.

I watched it on Netflix here in Australia and it seemed to be entirely random, although from memory Teardrop was the more common choice.

I'd thought about importing a US set, but now I'm not sure.

For those with the disc, what do you feel is missing that you would like to see included on an add-on? I am looking for video test patterns specifically.

Was testing a new pattern for hue shifts during tone mapping. When I enable the HDR Optimizer on the Panasonic player, the hue shifts go away compared to what I am seeing directly from the Z9D.

Why do the blue ramps break up into harshly delineated chunks of colour when I enable the Optimiser on the ZD9? Is it supposed to look like that?

Thanks for asking! I'd love to see a new motion resolution test and a test to confirm 24p film based content is being frame rate converted to 48fps, 72fps or 96 fps by the display.

That is a different issue. Fix one thing, break something else.

Good idea. Similarly how about a test to show whether 25fps or 50fps content is being converted to 60fps by the display.
