I recently watched Hitch on Blu-ray on my UB 9004 and for some reason the LPCM 5.1 track wasn't synced with the picture. When I switched to the Dolby Digital 5.1 track it was properly synced (but sounded awfull). I haven't tried out any other LPCM track yet. Has this issue ever happened to somebody else or is the problem on the disc?

I just searched in my collection and found three other titles with LPCM soundtracks (No Country for Old Men, The Life of Others and Kung Fu Hustle) and they all synced up fine. So the problem is with the Hitch release

Hopefully someone has some useful information for me. I have an LG g1 with a 820 player with software 1.69. On blue underground and sometimes kino 4k releases with dolby vision i will get what i call a flash on the screen when a camera shot changes. it happens a lot on blue underground releases, kino seems to be more common on recent releases but nowhere near as bad. Also is there any benefit to upgrading to the more recent software update?

Haven't noticed that on my ub9000 with any of my (recent) 4k Kino releases. Try updating your firmware to 1.76.

A rapid flash on the screen is probably static electricity discharging into the UB820. Happens a lot, especially if you use headphones as the static can go from you to the tv then the player. It's weird but this device does not feel shielded whatsoever. Never happened on Sony players or any game system, only the UB820.

Does the UB820, when playing an HDR10+ disc, switch out of HDR10+ when playing SDR content on the disc, such as features?

BUT, in case you didn't know, the Pannysonics have a 'feature' which forces DV onto everything on a disc if it detects that DV is present anywhere on it, e.g. you might have an SDR company logo, an HDR10 menu and a DV main feature on the same disc but the Panny will force the DV on all of it. Sometimes a disc which doesn't has DV might have some junk in its coding which is indicating that DV is present, so the Panny then forces it to on. This happened to me with one of the DC animated Warners UHDs, can't remember which one tho
I HATE this factor so much. To properly view anything outside of the feature you have to stop the whole disc, go to player settings and disable DV, restart the disc and sit through all warnings then watch everything and remember to turn DV back on afterwards.
All menus in forced DV are usually blindingly bright.

This is the case with the 4k DV discs with extras. I have this happening with the following movies

Lawrence of Arabia 4k
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 4k DV
Top Gun Maverick

Strangely this doesn't occur with Pitch Black which has the 4k DV movie and packed extras.

Not using headphones, but I do have an amplifier if that makes any difference.

That resolved it for me, the hard reset.

I got through my test play without any of the audio dropouts that were happening at the predictable interval and beyond.

I did the hard reset following the proscribed method using the remote:

Quote:
With the unit off, pressing and holding the OK, Yellow and Blue buttons on the remote at the same time for more than 5 seconds until “00 RET” is on the front panel display.
Then pressing the right arrow button until “08 FIN” is on the display.
Then pressing and holding the OK button for at least 5 more seconds.
I feel a little silly that I didn't try that first, maybe if I had my manual handy, not stored away in a box somewhere.

Much thanks to chip75 & sojrner for their help.

Anyways, ejected the disc and put it in my much older LG UP870 4K player and no issues at all with playback.

I originally got this player late last year when it was on sale at Amazon for under $300 (I think) and thought it was gonna be the answer to all the problems I used to have with my Sony UBP-X800. I don't know anymore. If I ever start having issues with 4K discs I guess I'm gonna be on the look out for something better.
Similar boat as you over the last three days with the 820. I’ve had it for almost 18 months and suddenly, it either won’t play a 4K or a BluRay disc. No rhyme or reason. It simply won’t load the disc.

This is my 4th 4K disc player since the format started. It might be my last if this continues.

Yeah then that’s not the problem you’re having. Static has to reach the player for this sort of white flicker that I’ve experienced. You must be getting a different visual behavior caused by something else I guess.

If you have it plugged up to a surge protector, it’s possible that it may be failing. I’ve said this a few times in this forum thread but I originally had my Panny 820 plugged into my old MonsterCable surge protector. Like you, I started having issues every once in a while where my player couldn’t read anything. Once you unplug it for a bit and plug it ack in, it worked again.

I eventually figured out that it was a power issue. My MonsterCable issue protector just couldn’t output enough power to it. So, I purchased a new one and it has worked and read every disc since so I would see if it’s your power source/surge protector 1st.

I've been searching for a media player that supports external subtitles for a while, and most reviews recommend Panasonic UB820 If possible, could one of the owners of this player test the external Arabic subtitles and take a picture, I'm planning to buy it.

Best regards.

Panasonic 42x, 82x and 900x are the worst media players possible. If you are going to play actual media files mkv, mp4, mov and such. SoC and FW software on these players really sucks when it comes to file playback.

You need a patched firmware to achieve it, it works well enough. Only the Chinese players have the function out of the box.

Sorry in advance if this has already been answered but anyone else with the og ub9000 have trouble with the Deadpool 4k disc that fox put out years ago? I just ebayed another copy and in the same exact spot as my original scratched disc, it pixelates and freezes.
