After the color grading he "approved" for the dvds, I'd rather have it matched to a decent technicolor print.

Besides, we already have the director's vision. Let's let someone else have a go at what may arguably be fairly deemed a restoration.

He doesn't own them anymore -- as owner of LucasFilm, he did. But he's sold Lucasfilm. LucasFilm owns Star Wars.

I didn't grow up with the series, so my preference towards an unaltered trilogy isn't based on my childhood being ruined. I'm more about the "film history" point of view. Release it as it was, and if they insist, include both versions.

Most studios still want "director approval". Marquand and Kershner aren't around anymore but they were working directly for Lucas so he'd still have approval on EMPIRE and JEDI.

Just like I don't care that people feel the need to say how pissed off they are, or bash Lucas. Sorry open forum works both ways.

Clearly you do care because you're in here clutching your pearls about every comment 3 years after the box came out.

No, I really don't....but if Entitled Fan can rant/rave for a decade, Content Fan can certainly bask in the glory that are these BDs.

Disney does not want or need his approval. You don't think they know what's gone on? The whole world except for Lucas Fanboys know he is wrong. They will be mending fences with the fan base I have no doubt!

The fanbase that continues to buy collectibles, books, comics, games and gave Phantom Menace another $100M in box office receipts over a decade later? The problem with fans such as yourself is that you assume everyone else is as cynical and pessimistic as you are and that we share your same opinions on Star Wars in general. Speak for yourself and no one else.

And say Disney doesn't "mend fences", then what? Are these same irate fans going to boycott all things Disney? LOL!

I can only speak for myself, but I've already gotten hours upon hours of enjoyment from the Blu-Ray saga set. I've been really pleased with it, and it will undoubtedly get many more viewings in the years to come.

Nope...just all things Star Wars like before. And it will go on and on until a vast majority of my generation is dead. But I think they want to bring everyone under the tent to make this a great success.

I'm the same as you. If this was about childhood, well, I didn't have any problem with the special editions in 1997. Those short videos about the restoration and the CGI at the beginning of the tapes totally sold me on the idea.

But then, I also didn't have a problem with them being in fullscreen either.

Hey, I was only 13 then.

Disney cares about money. No question.

That said, PT product far, far is the worst selling of all. The Clone Wars animated stuff did OK, but not that well, either.

The real money is in OT merchandising, where folks really spend thousands of dollars a year each in a lot of cases. Disney has shown in all areas as a company that they in general are more than willing to cater to the "whales" in a lot of ways.

If you'd like evidence of this, you can research some of the Hasbro panels from SDCC this weekend, where they outright said they have been directed to concentrate on the OT, and that after the few products that have been in the pipeline (it takes 1-2 years from concept to toy coming into a store) there will be no more PT, TCW, or EU stuff coming for the foreseeable future.

If Disney thought the PT stuff was popular enough, they would not be dumping it like a hot potato. Hasbro is just one example, there are many companies that work with Disney that have been told the same thing. They aren't retconing them out, but they are just not a factor in the new Star Wars story they are telling.

The writing's on the wall. Scary for those that want to keep the UOT supressed.

I can't wait. How many people in here have said, "it's never gonna happen, Lucas will never allow it!" If it's this time or the next, it's going to happen. I think it's hilarious how much the PT lovers are afraid of it, knowing full well that the new Lucas universe doesn't hold a candel to the old one, and that Disney embracing the old ways means Lucas's modern childish revision of what wasn't broke in the first place is more or less going to get swept under the rug.

Billie --

LUCASFILM (not Disney) has reorganized all of their priorities into promoting and supporting the new films as they are directly tied to the OT characters. This is why the EU and the games and the whatnot have been scuttled, everything going forward is designed to support the new properties. LUCASFILM under Kennedy is focusing the entire brand around the new films.

As a collector myself, the notion that PT stuff isn't being made is laughable. Sideshow Collectibles and Hasbro both have lots of upcoming PT stuff in the pipeline. There is a little more OT goodness coming from Hasbro at the moment, but not because the PT is being swept under the rug. It's because the OT films and characters directly tie into Episode VII, which they'll soon be selling in a local toy aisle near you. It's called marketing folks. There's PT stuff still being released though.
