I went a bit crazy, but I caught up on titles I have been wanting to get and some that I could not afford late last year.

RAGING BULL is 4K UHD

My order put me over the top and I received a $50.00 certificate.

I put that towards getting these.

I swooped up Hollywood Shuffle, Cooley High, Romeo and Juliet, and the 4K editions of Dazed and Confused and Baron Munchausen. I may go back for more, but I'm trying to exercise some restraint.

Here in Australia, it's illegal to sell a ticket for more than a 10% markup on the face value.

Amazon only matches the Barnes sales, not the Criterion flash sales. If the sale has a free shipping threshold (Criterion, Kino, etc.), Amazon won't match it. They only match the Barnes one because of the in-store option.

Plus the trip to Cruel World festival in California to see Siouxsie, Love and Rockets, etc.

I grew up listening to all of these bands/artists, though, and there is a distinct possibility that I will never get to see any of them in concert again.
2023 seems sort of like a glorious last hurrah for my youth.

I've also got a lot of smaller shows this year (Clan of Xymox, Weyes Blood, Skinny Puppy, M83, Hoodoo Gurus, A Flock of Seagulls, Amyl and the Sniffers, Horsegirl, etc.), but the prices are all less than $40 apiece for those.

I remember my first concert, R.E.M. with Pylon, for $18 back in 1989. Lol

I'm finally waving the white flag at my Blu-ray collecting hobby, since my collection is running out of space, since I've already got enough to keep me busy for the rest of my life, and since I'm favoring experiences (concerts, etc.) over physical media post-COVID lockdown. I still buy various things (Vinegar Syndrome subscription, etc.), but I've only been spending a fraction of what I used to spend on movies.
Pretty much the same with me, Owl. Over the past year I've bought far fewer titles than usual, and still have an embarrassingly large unwatched pile that will take me years to explore.

Ironically, while you've lined up a great slate of gigs for the year, I've reluctantly decided to "retire" from live music. I have some hearing loss in one ear, and concert sound systems have started to become an issue. I was thrilled to catch Porcupine Tree last summer on their first tour in a decade, and then just a week later had the privilege of a front-row seat for the Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets show here in Boston - which turned out to be the best gig I've ever seen. So it seemed like a good time to call it a day. With both The Cure and Peter Gabriel in town this summer it's tempting to make a couple of exceptions, but I'm sticking to the plan.

Back to the matter at hand...I'm sitting out the Flash Sale for the first time in years. But never say never, and I'm sure I'll be back for more in October.

Spent more money today $45 w/$50 CC reward than I have on a concert in MANY years. You know why...Just don't go anymore. Owl, I have seen all those bands many years ago when they were in their prime. As years went by and I saw the resurgence of these bands and the prices... I passed and was happy I had seen them multiple times when they were at their peak. Prices used to be $20-60 for MAJOR concerts in the 90's and some of the early 2000's, except for greedy U2... . 20 or so years later. The price has gone up 1000% or more!!! That's not inflation...that's greed. They can keep the nostalgia. My memories and vast musical collection does the trick. People spending $500+ on washed up artists... Insanity... Now go spend some fuc#in money at Criterion!!!!

Going back to thread topic...

I do plan to get Romeo & Juliet, Dazed and Confused 4K, etc., but will wait a few months.
I’ve run the clock down on a few big shows of late to great effect. Saw Elton John in July at Met Life and bought the ticket that morning, got in for 60 dollars. I mean, I was faaaaaar away, but I was in the place. Trying to do the same with Springsteen next month at the Barclays.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Dead and Company at Citifield with a ticket bought more than a few hours before the show. Last July I got two for 40 a head at like 2pm that day, really cool seats too.

Picked up:
Inland Empire
Last Hurrah
Mai Zetterling
Von Trier Trilogy
Imitation of Life
This is Not a Burial

So hours after busting my budget wide open, including the last minute impulse purchase of older Kurosawa, I find this posted on another forum

First up were STRAY DOG (1949) and IKIRU (1952), which were released this month and promptly sold out at Amazon Japan. April will see the release of YOJIMBO (1961) and SANJURO (1962), while dropping in May are HIGH & LOW (1963) and KAGEMUSHA (1980). Can't wait for SEVEN SAMURAI, THRONE OF BLOOD, and THE HIDDEN FORTRESS! Let's hope that Toho Video issues some of their Honda-Tsuburaya 4K restorations before the year is out, too.
I paused for a nano second before I placed the order, and considered asking here about whether there were any news or rumors of the AK films getting remastered soon.
Looking at the screencaps here, the current masters for both Ikiru and Rashoman looked fine to me.

Has anyone heard any feedback yet on those titles that were just released?

Has anyone run into this issue? I just went to place my order, applying my new Criterion Channel credit, and it says "THIS GIFT CERTIFICATE HAS ALREADY BEEN USED." But, I obviously haven't used the credit.

@KJones77 I believe that folks were receiving their subscription codes and they were all the same. Check for a newer code from Criterion that was sent a few days ago and you will hopefully have success. Good luck!
