Criterion’s been releasing a lot of pedestrian stuff lately (maybe that’s always been their game and I’m just jaded now) but the first three of those were some of their most interesting selections in a long while I thought

How long does it usually take them to process an order? I bought enough for that $50 gift card to place on a second order

Yeah, I wish Criterion gave a heads-up about it gong OOP. The reason it did is because MUBI acquired it, and the rights to several other Von Trier films:

With the Criterion site being so painful slow at the start of the sale, I accidentally added 2 copies of Drugstore Cowboy to my cart. I didn’t catch it until after I checked out. As I paid using mostly gift cards, my question is if I cancel the order how quickly with the gift cards reappear in my account?

I just think Criterion have a lot of big titles they're planning to release, so they can't just save them all for the major months anymore. I also wouldn't be surprised if they're also clearing the path for a big box set for one of those months too.

Don't forget, Criterion (and Janus films) has new ownership as of last May. Good chance that Steve Rales is pumping additional capital into the business in order to ramp up release numbers and thus increase cash flow.

Of course, it takes some time to crank up the output, hire new people to do the work, etc. I'm thinking we're now seeing the fruits of that new capital infusion.

It was only the previous sale where most weren't charged tax, but that was a glitch. Taxes were charged before that, though the number of states that were charged have increased over the years.
