It would be cool, though, if they went back to shrinkwrapping. I definitely intend to tell them this when I order my empty cases.

Just got done watching "The Gold Rush" 1925 version, they did a pretty good job with this. I really enjoyed the extras on the blu-ray as well, even though they were relatively short. Next up I will watch the 1942 version, which will be new to me.

It was definitely much cleaner than I've ever seen before. But I did notice all kinds of weird "cuts" and jumpiness in scenes that I'm not sure were always present or not. But it might just be because of the cobbled together sources used for this remaster. Whatever I had seen before was probably from one of the shoddy 16mm sources they discussed in the extras, at least a "continuous" source but much more shoddy quality.

I also noticed a possible goof. No idea if it was something went out of order when this cut was pieced together, or if it was always there. During the "Chicken chase" inside the cabin, at one point Chaplin takes a knife off the table and hides it under the mattress. A few seconds later there is a shot focused only on Big Jim sitting, and the knife is visible still on the table. A minor thing, but kind of funny to just notice it now.

Probably with his War Trilogy which consists of Ashes and Diamonds, A Generation and Kanal. These are his very first films but pretty good examples of his style.

I have never seen Korczak so I am really excited. I am planning on importing Katyn (Which I have not seen) alongside Wong Kar Wai's Ashes of Time Redux . The rest of them I prefer to wait for R1 upgrades .

I've never seen a Chaplin film. I have all 3 that Criterion has released on Blu (4 if you count "The Immigrant"). Which one do you guys recommend as the first one to be viewed?

Yeah I noticed that, I just didn't want to take Amazon's word for it as they have been wrong before. I was hoping this site had a review for Querelle by now, hopefully soon.

It also sucks seeing Europe getting a couple releases of Lili Marleen this year. Hopefully that means R1 finally gets it with the long rumored Criterion by the end of the year. The Carlotta Films release has a french track I believe.

Thanks for sharing this. This is the reason I personally prefer the y-fold wrappers when heat-sealed correctly. It's been inconsistent lately - anybody know which get shrink-wrapped and which get the y-fold? From what I've purchased so far, I have:

• Shrink-wrapped: Certified Copy, Vanya on 42nd Street, La Jetee / Sans Soleil, Samurai Trilogy
• Y-fold: La Haine, The Gold Rush, Being John Malkovich, Late Spring

I know this is probably trivial stuff for most folks, but just curious since the subject was brought up. I wonder if all instances of Late Spring, for example, are y-folds.

I have to give them credit. At least they are owning up to it and are offering an apology in the form of a new case and gift card. I've had to replace too many cases because studios insist on wrapping their Blu-rays like that. Not much you can do when it's melted on there.

Modern Times, hands down for me. That ending is the definition of melodrama, and every time I watch it, which would be annually at least, I walk around humming "smile when your heart is breaking..." for a couple of days after. And the parody of industrialization hasn't aged a day since 1936 (speaking as someone who worked summers in a refrigerator-assembly factory as an undergrad).

I'd go Gold Rush next. Less topical than Dictator.
