Looks like the UK is also getting the Three Musketeers on 4K. Maybe this will make Criterion more inclined to release these in the US.

Because they've literally shown comparisons of the new grading vs a 35mm print, and they match almost perfectly. As well as having the DP of Blue approve the grading, and using 35mm reference prints for White (and all 3) as well as the son of Sobocinski to assist on Red since his father, the DP, had passed away.

Not to mention I've seen them several times projected and while there certainly are a few instances where the blue is more "teal" than blue (as is the custom), the rest look very close to accurate. Blue especially, which has always used heavy yellow and green filters as Idziak was wanton to do on many of his films.

There are several videos online that do exactly that, see my post above.

All this talk of expecting Blue to be predominantly blue reminds me of a perhaps apocryphal story about Whistler's Mother, aka Arrangement in Grey and Black No.1. Someone complained that it contained colours other than grey and black, to which Whistler scornfully replied "And would you expect a symphony in F to only contain the note F, F, F, Fool!"

It was never "predominantly" blue, just like white or red were predominantly those colors. It's a fallacy, but they punctuated the films in moments and that's still true with the more accurate coloring.

It's just sad that a misguided reviewer who thinks he's more important than he is posts blatant misinformation and so many people take it as fact, when he contradicts his past reviews and couldn't be more clueless.

If the 30% sale was replacing the 50% sale, they would have said something at the time, to avoid people sitting out the 30% expecting a 50% to be coming.

I wish they went more to some Bollywood movies including art house stuff that broke the mould such as Bombay as well as cult classics like Sholay.

Also wish somebody would release a proper version of hero, not the Tarantino version.

As far as HMV in the UK, I’d be happy to forward stuff on if people need a physical UK address.

People need to chill the **** out! Lmao, so what if there isn't a sale this year? If you have this insatiable urge to consume, go outside into the real world and have something to eat and drink instead. Or just save it up, inflation is creeping up again so you may need your money harder than another criterion added to your massive pile of unopened blu's.

Anyone have an idea as to when we might see ‘Mank’ and ‘The Hand of God’?

I thought these have been on the docket for a while now.

What would they have said? "You can buy for 30% off now, or wait a few weeks and get 50% off instead"?

That would be a really dumb thing to say if they were trying to avoid people waiting for a 50% sale that wasn't going to happen...

A Bollywood set was rumored a couple of years back, but nothing since. Sholay is a huge want for me.

They would have said "this is replacing our 50% off sale".

Pasolini 101

Coming in June, a major tribute to the Italian iconoclast Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the most original and controversial thinkers of the 20th century.

Released in celebration of the 101st anniversary of Pasolini’s birth, this collector’s set provides an essential window onto a transformative period for an artist whose legacy remains a wellspring of freedom and revolutionary force. Including nine provocative, lyrical, often scandal-inducing films from the 1960s—Accattone, Mamma Roma, Love Meetings, The Gospel According to Matthew, The Hawks and the Sparrows, Oedipus Rex, Teorema, Porcile, and Medea—the decade in which this celebrated poet, novelist, and intellectual embarked on a feature filmmaking career, Pasolini 101 is a monument to the artist’s daring vision of cinema.

Also included: short films by Pasolini; archival interviews with filmmakers and scholars; documentaries on Pasolini’s life and career; deluxe packaging, including a 100-page book featuring an essay and notes on the films by critic James Quandt, and writings and drawings by Pasolini; and much more.
