![]() ![]() I suspect their reasoning for doing Courgette as a bonus was that it's less than 70min long (their solo animated releases are in the range of 90-100min), and easier to bundle as a bonus film on another Sciamma release than try to drum up interest in and generate sufficient supplemental content for it as a solo release. They have presented other films as extras, including Stanley Kubrick's similar running time Killer's Kiss (on The Killing blu). So long as they present it well, it should be fine. |

I agree. That makes big money for Criterion, and supports several other old art house releases. Fine by me. (Plus, that's a great film, too!) |

Don't most people buy Criterion during a 50% off sale? I'd be very curious how many of their sales are actually sold at full price. Hell, even Amazon is usually around 40% off at any time.

That's increasingly common on Amazon Canada ever since COVID and "supply chain issues". Many items, when not over-priced, just never get listed for purchase.

They have 2 flash sales per year, lasting 48 hours. I doubt most of their sales are during those 2 days. Also, as you observed, the titles are always available at some discount, some place. Even when you buy directly from Criterion.com, you never pay SRP ($39.95 for blu-ray's), pretty much always $31.96. So the 50% of sale is really just a 37.5% off sale. Finally, it's possible a large portion of Criterion's market doesn't care about $10 more or less and just get whatever they want when they want it throughout the year. I think these sales are primarily for avid collectors who use it as an opportunity to load up. |

I pre-ordered it on the US Amazon, listed at the full 249.99.
But I KNOW it will come way down from that by ship date. I won't be surprised if Amazon is listing it at 150 to 175 tops by street date. By July, they'll for sure be price matching B & N at around 125. I might have to pay a little more to get it by release. But then I also won't have to deal with a potential sell-out of it in July. |

I was so excited for the Pasolini box that I keep forgetting that we still get more announcements in just a few days.
Well, there's one thing long on my wishlist that's off of it, now. ![]() I still would like After Hours. |

![]() Sure, off RSP. And as the other user stated previously, they can be had at Amazon throughout the year at close to B&N sale price. Most of the time, you'll be saving like $4-8 compared to Amazon's price. However, I prefer to buy from Criterion.com directly, so I skip the B&N sale and try not to get too much from Amazon because their packaging is horrible. Also, Criterion.com has other merch I like to order sometimes and you get points & giftcards ![]() |

Has Criterion ever released a Sony Pictures Classics film?
I saw Living the other night and I thought it was right up their alley. |

One year, I wanted to get in on the spirit of all that, and ordered two titles being released that July during the sale from Barnes and Noble. By the time I paid the 'half off' plus shipping, it was MORE for the titles than I'd pay any other time from Amazon as a Prime member. Plus, I usually got the titles from Amazon by the release date (with free shipping) at around 33 % off MSRP at any given time. B & N didn't ship either title until AFTER the release date, and I got them well after. They shipped slower, too, instead of Prime's two day shipping. I wound up paying 62 dollars for two titles during that sale that, any other time, would have cost me 56 dollars from Prime, with two day shipping (I got those over a week past release date). So, I've just never seen the need to bother with those sales, since. Anyone else who enjoys them, I'm happy for you. Also, I'll add that, during the sale, Amazon often price matches B&N on many titles, as well. Then, they're way less with out shipping, and you get them much sooner. |
