Unlikely. B&N lets each store decide what to stock based on what sells, if your local doesn't stock Criterion then it's likely it never shifted units.

Criterion: fix your shipping. Corrugated mailers are not sufficient.
Fix your packaging while you're at it. No excuse for such poor quality.

What purpose would a bunch of roid-raging, mouth breathers have for The Red Shoes in 4K?

Maybe they enjoy classic cinema.

Then they should try watching the discs and not just sitting on them.

Honestly, since they’re so good about sending any replacements free of charge i’d rather they kept shipping prices down then have to use pricier shipping materials

The bookseller chain plans to offer the full assortment at 12 locations, including stores in New York; Los Angeles; Honolulu; Anchorage; Orlando; San Antonio; Troy, Mich.; Bloomington, Minn.; Louisville Ky.; Spokane, Wash.; and Peoria Ill. Additional locations will be announced in the future.

“We have had a long history of featuring Criterion titles in our stores and online at bn.com,” Barnes & Noble music and video category manager Crissi Bariatti said in a statement. “This expansion will allow the Barnes & Noble customer in select markets to browse and shop the entire collection available on Blu-ray and 4K UHD. Additionally, shoppers in all markets can order for home delivery or store pickup.”

“We are thrilled with Barnes & Noble’s decision to expand their selection of Criterion titles, allowing customers the opportunity to build their own collections,” Angie Bucknell, director of sales at Criterion, said in a statement.

Currently, Barnes & Noble carries a curated assortment of Criterion titles available on Blu-ray in most of its 600 locations, including new releases and monthly themed catalog assortments offered at a substantial discount.

Color me flabbergasted (yes, an old timey term) that Peoria ILL will have a full Criterion assortment. I grew up 45 miles from Peoria, and believe me it used to be a pretty hard living river town. (I was never sure if Richard Pryor was proud to be from Peoria, or not.) "If it played in Peoria" wasn't just a throwaway phrase, it meant your movie was as middle brow as it comes. And it could play anywhere in the USA without a ripple of discontent.

I would have thought the western Chicago suburbs would have gotten the Illinois B&N Criterion nod. there's a huge pool of potential purchasers up there in that Metro area.

Meanwhile, the B&N store in Bellingham, WA has no discs at all, other than books on compact disc.

My mother pre-ordered the Pasolini boxset for me for my birthday.

It came today. A handsome boxset for sure, though I haven't had the chance to put in a single disc yet. Just got back from a Dude Perfect tour date for the young boys in my house.

Just picked up Early Summer. Only available in DVD but I'll take it. Rounds out the Noriko Trilogy for me.

I am still holding out hope that this 30% off sale increases to 50% off sale tomorrow. I seem to remember that sales used to start on the last Monday in June, but I may be going back some years.

The B&N sale should start on Friday or right after 4th of July.

Any news on Criterion picking up any horror type titles?

I'm prematurely thinking about what could be announced for Halloween, but aside from some potential Cronenberg 4K upgrades, I can't think of much.

I am a testosterone-filled male but I like to wear a tutu when I watch my Criterion The Red Shoes.

Which means the 4K restoration available in Japan and France will be coming soon (hopefully in a box set). Thanks for the sacrifice, lol.

They have been rumored to have Freaks for years now, which would be a great one. Also, possibly I Walked With A Zombie.

I was fortunate enough to pick up the Japanese 4K restoration of Late Spring a while back which is a stunning release by the way, but when I looked for Early Summer they are used in good condition. It came out in 2016 in Japan so it's history. Even the 4K Japanese version of Late Spring that I have isn't available in Japan anymore. I wouldn't count on it being available in Japan again. The DVD I bought has been on Criterion forever. I've wanted the Criterion Eclipse DVD Ozu series sets forever too.

I mean, I'd rather have a used blu-ray of the 4K restoration than a new DVD of a super old master with far less resolution.

But really I'd rather Criterion just release a box set, since so many of the films have restorations now that are unavailable in the US.
