People talking about receiving Criterion coupons with their orders…do they give them for all orders? Are orders shipped to Canada excluded from receiving the coupons? I made a $200+ order back in October but didn’t receive anything.

Ah, I could be wrong then. I should know by now, but I don't recall. I am fairly certain the points accumulated from pre-orders aren't available immediately; they take effect when the pre-order is actually released.

They are talking about the $50 certificates given out when you reach $500 in cumulative spend. Those are sent electronically as soon as you hit the $500 mark, so you can take and turn them around immediately for another order.

EDIT: the original discussion was about the $10 coupons that they have sent to Criterion Channel subscribers before certain sales. Seems like non-subscribers who have bought directly from the website also got a $10 coupon this time.

So many Hitchcock titles being added to the Criterion channel. At least a dozen.

It's one of the curated collections this month, "Hitchcock for the Holidays." I'm pretty sure they had a similar collection last year (or maybe 2021) as well. It's quite the playlist, includes 25 films overall.

They're also all leaving at the end of the month, so get in quick.

Yeah unless you have a pressing need, the painful shipping threshold essentially makes me never use these codes except for 50% sales.

Default Rodan (1956)

I initially posted this query on the KL thread. I was told Criterion has it in the US. Criterion has Rodan available for streaming, but no disc release. Does anyone know why not? Is their license good only for streaming? Do they have plans for a 4K release?

Toho has made a 4K scan using the color separation elements.

"Fragments of Illusions Extra: The Art of Rodan, Giant Monster of the Sky" (Hobby Japan)

Only two Hitchcock films are leaving the channel at the end of this month. The Skin Game and Champagne.

No specific knowledge about Rodan, but merely being on the Channel doesn't imply any rights to a physical release. They show stuff on the Channel from other distributors quite often, though usually only for a short time whereas the library owned by Janus is more or less permanently available.

Good to know for future reference. I don't buy a ton from them despite being region-free, as I prefer US releases when possible. I was just so excited to see Pandora's Box after waiting so long for a CC upgrade, and I didn't want to miss the LE.

Default The Mysterians (1957)

What are Criterion's plans regarding The Mysterians? They have it available for streaming.

There is an older 2010 Japanese Blu-ray available...from Japan.

Toho has recently made a 4K restoration of this title which would be a great starting point for a deluxe release of this TohoScope film classic.

Music by Akira Ifukube.

Rodan is part of the Janus library, so I believe Criterion would have the rights to a U.S. physical release.

RIP Mr. O'Neal. I re-watched Barry Lyndon (the Criterion BR, of course) recently and Paper Moon is another favorite.

On a lighter note, the clips of Paper Moon shown look amazing. They look on par with the 4K restorations of Night Of The Living Dead, The Last Picture Show, and many of the WAC titles derived from negatives. Either a UHD or a 4K mastered Blu-ray is going to happen in the near future.

That sounds promising. Paper Moon is one I've been waiting for.
