Demon Pond would be tight. And I Walked with a Zombie finally.

Cool things never on Blu-ray.

Thank friggin' god. That's one I've been holding off on because I know the transfer is weak. Considering Criterion's been on a Scorsese kick over the last few years, I predict it will eventually have a UHD release.

Unfortunately, the Blu-ray - as with all their standard Blus - will be the same old disc with the same old master I've been passing on for several years, so I'll wind up getting the old disc anyway. -_-

Thank you for reminding me of that. I don't know how I forgot that one. I guess with July being such a legendary month, some titles were so big they overshadowed the other big titles.

Original list
Question: What cuts of the films are included? There's at least two cuts of The Doom Generation, and I'm not sure how many there are of the other films.

And if the film doesn't get announced this month, then I have a strong feeling that November is an even better candidate since Kubrick is such a huge name.

On a side note, this leaves Eyes Wide Shut and Lolita without a 4K UHD now and Eyes Wide Shut had that 4K restoration announcement on this site back in September 2019 when only 2 Kubrick films (2001 and The Shining) had their UHDs announced or released (The Shining came out on October 2019, a month after the announcement).

A good example is Pandora's Box, which given the new screenshots, should be indicating a BD (and maybe 4K) announcement tomorrow.

1. If Barry Lyndon finally (FINALLY!!!) makes the jump, it's going to be a long wait until November to pick it up.

2. While I missed the announcement on EWS getting restored years ago, I believe it. If anyone has the Digibook Blu of ACO from 2011, it has the 2000 transfer on the actual movie, but the 2011-produced special features (I believe they're called "Malcolm McDowell Looks Back" and "Turning Like Clockwork") use a then-new 4K restoration done in either 2010 or early 2011, and the difference is night and day. WB then did a second 4K restoration in 2016. WB then did a third 4K restoration in 2021, and that third one is what's on the 4K. So if there truly is an extant 4K restoration of EWS, it would neither shock nor surprise me. In fact it would annoy me that we could've had this out on 4K years ago.

For anyone who knows, what cut is the restoration of EWS (theatrical or uncut), what AR (allegedly Kubrick intended 1.37 for that one, per the 2000 and 2001 boxes), and does it have the Jocelyn Pook song? Also, what was the original soundtrack to EWS? IMDb lists only "Dolby", the tapes are Dolby Surround Stereo, the discs are all 5.1, and all that I've found from Kubrick is the "well, you finally got me, I'm officially the last guy to switch to stereo" letter that is probably common knowledge.

3. Pandora's Box and Paris, Texas need upgrades. Paris, Texas would do great in 4K, but Pandora's Box has a DVD in the states (I know about the foreign Blu), so that one really needs an upgrade.

4. If we manage to get Barry Lyndon, Pandora's Box, and Paris, Texas all in October, then an even more stacked slate in November, the November sale may very well rock me even more than the July sale.

5. They rarely if even upgrade the caps, since when the Blu-ray and the 4K use the same 4K master, you're getting a good enough look at the disc from the 2K SDR caps. Also, as many people have said, no cap can truly capture 4K DV/HDR, making Criterion replacing 2K SDR caps of a master with 4K DV/HDR caps of the same master almost moot.

Welp, I was wrong again.

I could've swore they looked way different on my TV. I'll have to watch it again this weekend.

I vividly remember thinking the 4K looked way better than even the Blu-ray, and thinking the colors were even more striking on 4K.

The Criterion releases of The Earrings of Madame De and Children of Paradise also have notably bad transfers.

Well my haul from B&N includes: Le Samouri, the Qatsi trilogy, Short Cuts, The Player, sex lies and videotape, Easy Rider, Fast Times, and Being John Malkovich. Big month, between this, and the Vinegar Syndrome and Severin sales. I even skipped the Arrow and Kino sales!

I really hope October is full of horror titles, and a couple new to Blu-Ray titles.

My hopes

Demon Pond
I walked With a Zombie
Blood and Wine more Fox titles would be great
A Simple Plan I'm really leaning towards either Arrow Video, or Criterion releasing this title
Stray Dog
Kwaidan 4K UHD
Eyes Without a Face 4K UHD plus Blu-Ray

6 titles sounds about right for October
I swear if all of these titles get announced tomorrow I would lose it and would be buying every single title day one.

A friend of mine made his first ever Criterion Purchases with this current sale at B&N, and he asked me which would be the best first time viewing of the Newly released Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, what do you guys think? My friend got his first time tv/theater room set up in his basement with a nice 77 inch LG oled, and Sony 4k player, not sure what his home audio set up is, but i believe he probably matched the TV brand.

No guesses, but I'd like to see:

Eyes Wide Shut
The Seventh Victim
Plan 9 From Outer Space
High and Low (yellow subtitles would be easier to read)
Wise Blood (Blu-ray upgrade)
The Atomic Submarine
Return of the Secaucus Seven (interviews with entire cast)
Blood and Roses

This would be interesting to see released. I know it is rumored. A complete 4K set of Twin Peaks & Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me by Criterion. (I am listening to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me on vinyl at the moment.)

Seriously?! Why not suggest a Michael Bay movie while you're at it.

Any chance Missing (1982) will come to blu/4k from Criterion? Also would love to see The Last Wave and California Split finally get a blu.
