Probably waiting till Black Friday for extra stamps but my wishlist this sale are westerns (Gunfighter, Pat Garrett, Ranown set, My Darling Clementine, One Eyed Jacks, and a few more) and finishing up my Kurosawa and Welles gaps. I’d like to get more, but my budget is a bit tight this time around.

Anora would be a great release for Criterion.

Thanks. I thought it was just me being cursed. Your probably right about the pre-orders although it makes zero sense to me. You'd think they want to know logistically how many copies are needed at what warehouse. I'd really like to snap up Scarface 4K but atm, shipping costs exceed the cost of the item. Just seems daft to me particularly with pre-orders from other labels unaffected.

After picking up six titles in the CC flash sale, I held myself to only four more:
Paper Moon BD
Seven Samurai 4K
Shape of Water 4K
Teen Apocalypse Trilogy BD

Does the 1977 movie "House" (Housu) have a thread of its own? I can't find it, only dozens of "house" related titles.

Thanks! I am actually wondering if the French release is better than the Criterion one. The steelbook is amazing, but OOP, and before I finally, finally buy the US CC one I wanted to check. I always wanted the CC one anyway because the cover looks 100% like Gossamer from Looney Toons and I find that hilarious.

The French release has no English subs, just French.

This has probably been asked and answered a dozen times already, but is there a way to view a list of the most recent Criterion releases from, say, the last two years? Or just a list of all of them in reverse chronological order of their release from Criterion? Their own website is no help.

ANORA won the Palme D'Or and is currently a major Oscar contender so a Criterion release is definitely happening.

Speaking of, I know THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD is the one that actually made the Oscars, but it's bizarre that one got licensed out to Criterion instead of TITANE when TITANE won the Palme D'Or and is immeasurably superior.

Criterion Thank God(zilla) For The Criterion Collection!

Just wanted to give a quick shout out and say "thank you" to the folks over at The Criterion Collection for releasing Ishiro Honda's masterpiece Godzilla (1954) on 4K UHD in the North American market!

Since today is November 3rd 2024, let me be the first here in this thread to sincerely say:

HAPPY 70TH ANNIVERSARY/BIRTHDAY GODZILLA!!!

(Just in case anyone hasn't read this elsewhere already by now... )

I still kind of wonder how the audio and visual quality compares to the Japanese 4K UHD though. (I'm assuming that they're both probably identical.)

Anyway, I cannot remember a single point in my entire life before or without Godzilla.
Apparently I saw Godzilla (1954) for the very first time when I was only 2 years old, at least according to my parents that is.
(Well, it was technically the bastardized American version Godzilla King Of The Monsters! (1956) but I digress.)

Regardless, Godzilla (1954) was/is undoubtedly THE film that made me fall completely in love with cinema in the first place.
(Both as a spectator as well as someone that would eventually grow up to pursue/achieve filmmaking as a professional career.)
Godzilla (1954) was also my first introduction to foreign films and more specifically Japanese films (which I obviously love dearly still to this very day).
It was also the first film were I learned, from my (producer) mother, what all of those words shown at the beginning were and more importantly what they all meant:
"See, that Honda guy is a film director. That's his job, he makes movies..."
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Godzilla (1954) also happened to be the first film that exposed me to monsters, horror, science fiction, and possibly even heavy music let alone cemented my endless love for it all too!
Needless to say, I will forever be overwhelmingly in debt to Godzilla (1954) and more specifically the ensemble of imaginative/pioneering filmmakers that are responsible for this mon-star's creation.
I'm talking about Ishiro Honda, Eiji Tsuburaya, Akira Ifukube, Tomoyuki Tanaka, and Haruo Nakajima (among plenty of others).
Personally, I believe that they are the real Godzilla and they are definitely the true icons that deserve to be celebrated today.
Seriously, if it were not for the combined efforts and contributions of these individuals, I would not be who I am today.
This film continues to have such a profound impact and influence on my life, it's quite arguably my favorite film of all time!
Although unrightfully scoffed at by many in the U.S.A. for decades, Godzilla (1954) has finally been widely acknowledged as the truly immortal cinematic masterpiece that I always knew it was, even when I was just a kid.
I am more than overjoyed that it is still entertaining and inspiring new audiences around the world 70 years later on!

Anyway, here's wishing a "Happy 70th Godzilla Anniversary/Birthday" to everyone!
Now it's time for me to go watch The Criterion Collection's recent 4K UHD release of Godzilla (1954) plus a few other personal favorite Godzilla films for good measure... (which also happen to have been released by The Criterion Collection! )

Or if you prefer a music selection that's arguably more appropriate coming from Röckzilla :

[Show spoiler]Oh who am I really fooling here, Godzilla Vs. Hedorah (1971) is probably my favorite film of all time.

On Amazon, all of the Criterion Collection 4K UHD movies are 50% off at the moment. I just ordered To Die For and Riskey Business. I already owned Wall-E and The Others. I hope this helps everyone who missed the last sale!

From this sale I ordered these:

Strangely enough both released this year, and two of only three; Peeping Tom being the other one; 2024 Criterion titles I have purchased. But I have pre-ordered Winchester '73 so I have high hopes for next year.

Someone has made a site entry for Alain Guiraudie's new film Misericorde as a Criterion title. Has this any basis in actual source, since Guiraudie's previous film Stranger by the Lake came from Strand Releasing. In either case, it's an excellent suspense / black comedy in a Truffaut-esque vein, which I recommend to the movie buffs here.

I think Sideshow/Janus picked it up for US distribution. So it'll be a Janus Contemporaries release.
