Sorry to disagree but this is a bad take. Holding hostage a film in a set that many folks may not have wanted or bought is not a wasted slot. This is a great release for those only interested in that specific title. Plus it's a 4K release as it's already out on BD from CC already. Cronos is an American region release. Overseas releases don't count. And nothing wrong with Performance as it's a brand new master and not a recycled one. The WAC master is grossly outdated.

I’m really excited for Crossing Delancey 4K. Also picking up Punch Drunk Love 4K. Only lightly interested in Drugstore Cowboy 4K. I’ll probably end up passing on King Lear BD and Performance 4K. I’ll pick up the BFI for Cronos 4K.

I have no complaints. Solid month. Definitely better than January in my book.

An excellent movie. It's definitely the ultimate romcom, but I don't see the point in upgrading from Blu-ray, especially when already owning a copy of the Criterion release.

Drugstore Cowboy is another major acquisition in my opinion. Anyone knows if it's Lionsgate they're licensing it from, or could it be someone else?

The Performance release looks like a nice upgrade from the Warner Archive release, because it features the original UK soundtrack.

Drugstore Cowboy heck yeah I’ll be buying this immediately and also more Jean Luc Godard yes please will definitely be picking both of these titles up day freaking one

I’m pretty excited about both of these titles been wanting to watch more French cinema from the Godard catalogue.

Might pick up Punch Drunk Love too a film that has been on my backlog for years overall this is a really solid month, and I thought January was already really dang good too with freaking Jojo Dancer, and Winchester 73 along with the Grifters too I’m honestly pretty excited with these titles nice job Criterion keep it up.

I say BS to all of that. All three of those films have perfectly fine BD's. Leave the 4K upgrades to the studios versus wasting one of the very few Criterion slots Criterion gives us. Plus not everything needs a 4K upgrade for a marginal tick in clarity.

PLUS, now WAC titles coming out, holy shit is that even more bad news. Let WAC handle those, and Criterion should just step away from that.

Criterion is becoming a big waste of space in my eyes.

I will give them Drugstore Cowboy though, as that's a pretty nice title.

Since they're picking films out of the Sony sets I'm surprised Devil's Backbone wasn't released alongside Cronos. Though I'm not currently planning to double-dip on same-label releases for those del Toro films.

I do understand re-release fatigue, but if your options for a film like Lawrence of Arabia were a 500+ dollar boxset, or a 100+ dollar steelbook, I wouldn’t be opposed if Criterion released it myself.

I think it's awesome to see King Lear be included in the Criterion catalog. I'd be interested in Punch-Drunk Love, but I may pass on a physical 4K copy now that the scratch issue is suddenly afflicting Criterions on both sides of the Atlantic (it's likely to get a UK Criterion 4K, as well).

It was a 6th slot whereas there are often or usually only 5. Plus, there is nothing new to the release and using an existing 4K master, so it was a low effort release that probably doesn't affect their usual production. Think of it as a bonus release

I say this as a friend, I think you should probably take a break from this site for a while, it seems to be causing some serious mental distress.

Criterion is causing me some mental distress and the fact that people lap up all these 4K upgrades as good news when they have a 1000 films that don't have any sort of release.

Criterion needs to stop when all of these 4K upgrades and wasting slots every single month. 50% of this month are titles that already had really good BD's.

I completely agree it’s way way cheaper than buying an entire giant box set.

I think it's time to declare war on Criterion. I may have to fight against insurmountable odds, but until we get a month with ZERO 4K upgrades and all new titles, the battle stations have been laid. Let it begin...
