What a great month! I'm passing on the WA box set since I already have so many of them, but definitely in for French Dispatch and Isle of Dogs. Will be excited to get both Flow and This is Spinal Tap in the October flash sale! Glad to see some of the others are also streaming on the Criterion Channel.

Also, I guess I never really realized it was based on a book, definitely going to seek that out.
MR. ARKADIN DVD came with a novel written by Orson Welles.

So many excellent releases coming in September, but Spinal Tap might just be a day one purchase. One of my favorite films ever.

Oh, thank you, btw - I wasn’t thinking of Haxan in my original comment, I was thinking of Vampyr.

Reiner used to be a great filmmaker but he's never recovered from North.

Yeah that was a wretched movie, but that's not exactly what I'm referring to.

Is there a rights issue going on with Kagamusha? Does that apply to bfi as well?

There are a number of releases that include (or initially included) the short stories on which the films were based in the booklet. I swear there used to be a list somewhere of Criterion releases that included the source material, but I can't remember who did it/where it was posted.

Disney owns the US and UK rights.

I look forward to reading comments about the 4K of HIGH AND LOW when it's released. I had the previous Criterion disc (don't recall if it was DVD or Blu-ray) quite a few years ago and wasn't able to read some of the subtitles. I do hope the subtitles are much bolder on this new release.

You fear that Reiner has gone back and edited the original film to include new material related to the current political environment?

Rob Reiner's SPINAL TAP II: THE END CONTINUES is scheduled for release in September. So I suspect that if there's anything about the current political environment it will be in that new release.

Then again, Nigel, David, and Derek seem to be far too lame brained to pay much attention to politics, US or UK.

Would be depressing if that's what Netflix chooses to license out. Justice for BLONDE and I'M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS!

People...the Spinal Tap disc will be full of Reiner's thoughts circa 1994 when Criterion originally released the film on LaserDisc. There is one new interview with him and Patton Oswalt. So if you need a safe space from potential political discussion, don't watch that.
