I know Apple aren't playin' nice allowing companies to release their titles on physical. But I imagine Scorsese and Criterion could ink a deal for Killers of the Flower Moon to be the first release for them.
It depends on the deal Scorsese's production company made for this movie, the rights might revert at some point or exclusivity might end. As long as Apple has the exclusive distribution rights, Marty can't ink any deal without Apple signing off on it

This is a shot in the dark, but maybe we'll get Jason and the Argonauts (a laserdisc upgrade)? Dreaming out loud here.

Indicator was working on a Harryhausen big box at some point in conjunction with his estate, but I guess that fizzled out.

I assume you're referring to something different from the three boxsets they did about 8 years ago?

yeah, they were going to do a big set of everything, or nearly everything, and if obviously didn't happen (I suspect that the fact that they had already released three sets had something to do with the bigger one not happening.)

Man freaking Apple keeping Killers of the Flower Moon from getting released in the US physically urghhhh

Still I wonder if we'll get both Warner titles still missing on Blu-Ray from Scorsese in November. I think it's way more likely we'll get just one, but I'll be a happy camper if we get both of them. I do think Criterion has both of them, but which one will show up first is my question?

I completely forgot about that, I think they were teasing that around 2020 if memory serves.

Still, it could be a possibility in the U.S at least.

I think it was mentioned by someone with the Harryhausen estate and it would have included all his Columbia films, as well as those owned by Warner and others (think One Million Years B.C. was the only non-Sony/WB).

Could still be going on. Wouldn't be the first time there's a very long wait (as happened with Birdy and Carnal Knowledge).

Money left on the table by them. The people who like a movie like Flower Moon are the same people that buy discs.

It's not worth it for them. They want people to feel they need to subscribe to get all of that content. They're not acting like a studio, they're acting like a streamer

Can't imagine that mindset helps alleviate the burden that Flower Moon put on Apple.

You'd think they they'd try to do more to recoup that insane budget they gave to Marty.

Robert Altman’s Quintet might be coming soon based on a Letterboxd reviewer i follow saying Criterion asked for him to write a piece in it.

They said that they were hired to write on a Altman film in honor of his 100th Birthday, and they chose to write about Quintet. Sounds to me that this is for something on their website rather than a home video release.

Yeah, I can't imagine Criterion having access to Fox catalogue and choosing Quintet over M*A*S*H or 3 Women.

I'm running my mouth, but on whatever balance line Killers exists on, it's offset from some other balance line like "imports from Portugal."

That's the PROBLEM with Apple - not only are they acting like a streamer, even the streams are just another doo-dad product. So they aren't going to release positive control of anything. To them, allowing Criterion to stream Killers would be like having Xfinity sell an iPhone - it just wouldn't make sense.

So yeah, to us it doesn't make sense that they have this crazy budget they could make money back on with a licensing deal....but to Apple, it's just one more product that you have to come to Apple to get.

I mean, none of this is a new theory of course, but the lack of deals with things like Killers just shows how these big companies only view their products as "intellectual property." Not as any kind of "creative benefit" to the world at large. Scorsese could have negotiated Criterion as part of his deal, but I'm sure Apple would have taken lost revenue out of his end.

The sad reality is that the budget for the movie is probably dwarfed by R+D for Apple products we never even saw. Cost of doing business.

Criterion has put out Paramount titles in December of 2023 (Days of Heaven) and 24 (No Country). This is Nashville’s 50th birthday. I’m going to guess will get it in December.

Though the Paramount titles could also be HUD. Who knows?

The release from Eagle is good enough, Apple doesn't need to worry about me.

I'm more exercised that this appears hopeless:
