It was only just released last December...and as far as I know no other Universal Criterion blus have gone OOP, so it's probably one of the least likely titles go OOP anytime soon. It's also probably one of their most popular.

Are you just buying certain Criterions because they are/you think they will be OOP?

lol for Howard's End I'll admit that bought it more for the reason that it's OOP. However I do like Helena Bonham Carter. But no, all the other Criterions I've bought were because I actually wanted them.

I guess I just felt that I feel so obliged to buy Brazil because if it went OOP and I didn't get it then it would be a tragedy for me.

I guess so. When I think of a cinematic beauty in a foreign film, however, I first think of Anita Ekberg in La Dolce Vita.

I just noticed Charade - non Criterion Collection version today at Best Buy. How many titles are out there that have both a regular and Criterion version like this?

It's all just fan talk, and it will never happen. There is a reason Disney doesn't want it released, and if they ever did decide to let it out, they would do it themselves.

From what I heard, the effect was achieved by placing a piece of gauze over the lens.

It is all fan speculation. If Disney was going to release this, I can't imagine a scenario where they wouldn't keep it in house.

But a release of SotS is only slightly more likely than an uncut Fantasia.

All the sources I've read stated it was from cracking open the canisters and exposing the negative to light.

And sadly, neither of those is ever going to happen.
Wish they'd just go the Warner route and put up a disclaimer before the film stating they were a product of their times. No one *****ed about their old non-pc cartoons.
They're even going as far as releasing the famous censored 11 soon!

If I recall Correctly I usually buy 2 Extra Shelves for the bookcases to maximize the amount of titles I can store. I have 8 Shelves per unit.

What do these units run for from Ikea? And do I understand you that you buy 2 additional shelves that fit this from Ikea to maximize the unit? I need another shelf and I like the red, thanks.

Edit: Looks like the birch was $79.99 and the black was $59.99.

It's mostly Universal that does this. They've released their own Blu-Ray for Traffic, Brazil, Dazed and Confused, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and now Charade (I might be forgetting one). Easy Rider was also released by Sony in a standalone release and The Third Man was released by StudioCanal after Criterion lost the rights.

You heard right. That's a good description of BRANDED TO KILL. Imagine a classic American film noir, but filmed by Jean-Luc Godard with perhaps a touch of David Lynch, in Japanese and with a Japanese setting. I like it a lot, but some friends who are noir and/or Godard fans can't stand it while others find it an interesting cinematic exercise.

It's got the odd, off-beat sense of humor that TOKYO DRIFTER has, but isn't quite such an over-the-top parody of the genre as that film. I'm not quite sure which of the two I prefer... probably depends on which one I've seen most recently.

You might also like PALE FLOWER if you like either or both of those.

Today I went to a B&N store late in the day intending to buy another 4 titles for my 3rd haul but the media section had closed down early and I left grumbling out through the store. Bummed but I will be back this week to try again.

If the Before Trilogy gets announced...I will die of happiness. My god. Is there any evidence it could be so? Or just wishful thinking?

While it's the only Godard film I've seen so far, you might end up liking Band of Outsiders. I just watched it yesterday and enjoyed it. It seems like it's one of his more accessible films.

Thanks, blu. Excellent description. I've come back to this title at every B&N sale and I may end up pulling the trigger this time.

I'm not giving up on Godard just yet. I plan on renting Band of Outsiders and Contempt next.
