Why are people using the 15% off discount when a 20% off discount coupon goes into effect either tomorrow or Thursday?

There's a good chance the code tomorrow won't work on sale items.

All online codes during the July sale were blocked from the Criterion sale.

Picked up Seconds, Eyes Without a Face, The Spy Who Came in from The Cold, and Lord of the Flies today. First 2 are blind buys that I can't wait to check out.

A bird in the hand. Coupon use online is very hit or miss to begin with and it's generally miss or miss during these sales. I think the 15% has been shut down already and I wouldn't expect any other coupons to work online for the duration.

edit: oh never mind . i see the UK edition features 5.0 audio, so I will prefer that one.

also, does anyone know how long this sale will last?

What a gyp! The 15% off coupon worked today when I was at work messing around. I get home to order? Denied.

Still, picked up Eclipse sets 25 & 28 for about $22 less than Amazon's prices.

A Capra box set would be nice.

Okay, so regarding the Sony announcement does that mean that Criterion gets to release some of their titles as well? I'm confused….

Criterion has released already plenty of Sony titles, so no. They're just handling the physical distribution of Criterion products.

Sony has been licensing titles (mostly from their Columbia library) to Criterion for a while now. On the Waterfront and Anatomy of a Murder were both licensed from Sony.

Whether this new distribution deal (Sony will pressing discs, printing art, storing and shipping everything for Criterion now) has any impact on future licensing deals is anybody's guess.

I think the Sony deal with Criterion is for replication and distribution from the Sony facility. Not a deal to distribute the Sony catalog. Criterion seems to have moved this from Image to Sony.

Okay but the coupons will still work in-store during this sale, right?

I would fight every single polar bear in the Arctic Circle blindfolded with one hand tied behind my back just to get Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon in the Criterion Collection. Jacques Tourneur's brilliant direction works wonders in both versions of this eerie tale.

Make it happen, Criterion.

This move made logical sense... Image was already using Sony for replication and distribution, so maybe they just decided to cut out a step. (Sony will also be doing behind the scenes paperwork, which I think Image handled.)

Ditto! The Columbia dvd is nice but I can just imagine the upgrade it could get from the CC. It's not a Columbia title but my #1 wish title to add is still The Thing From Another World. My avatar is a little reminder.

This.

It has long been rumored that Criterion was leaving Image in favor of a new distributor. However the last paragraph of the article I posted mentions Criterion releasing Sony titles.

My big question is will this make Criterions available in more retail spacers and will the MSRP get lower?
