It would be hilarious if they put out Fright Night.

And that's not counting what's been released on Blu-ray already, by Sony themselves, Criterion, and Twilight Time.

It's also not counting the vast bulk of The Three Stooges' filmography.
Something tells me that we are going to see some Frank Capra come to Criterion in 2014. He's seriously underrepresented on blu-ray (It's a Wonderful Life and Lady for a Day are basically the only films of his available on blu-ray today). You named a lot of other classics there too... this all looks promising.

I know this... 20th Century Fox owns them... I checked before I posted... however, when I think of action films I think of the Die Hard films.

yes.. my thoughts exactly. there are a ton of 'Criterion worthy' titles out there. I wouldn't be expecting White House Down or Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star any time soon.

I'd be satisfied with just a 35-hour collection of the Curly shorts.

Hey, it'd be about the same size as the Zatoichi box...

Just picked up one title today as the lady cashier there, I knew, was not one of the lenient ones. I barely got her to do the $8 off - even though she has done it before.

Going to go back a few times in the coming weeks and hopefully see the nicer old lady there more often.

Usually the older ladies working at the Barnes & Noble stores I go to are ruthless and suspicious. It's the younger, more naive ladies that are more lenient as they can be "soft" and clueless sometimes. The older ones are tough though and smart. They'll shoot you down with coupons (especially if I already used one - as one older CSR did to me when she remembered I had already used it - and that was the $5/50 coupon). Roar!

For those who know how is The Devil's Backbone say in comparison with Pans Labyrinth and Chronos?
Devil's Backbone is a modern masterpiece, IMO. A cool ghost story. PL is very good as well but admittedly does have more style than substance for most of the film (the ending redeems it).

Cronos is...good.

I can never get the coupon codes to work if that makes you feel any better.
(said my order "didn't qualify")

I say the lady is nice because I basically have the opportunity to 'tell' her how to input the coupons (she always thanks me for 'being so prepared') . I don't go crazy but I get her to do the $8 off 39.99 at least once if she happens to be working.

Tough thing is that I only have one BN near me that sells movies and there are the same four people working there for what seems like a few years - older male manager, two older female ladies and one young guy and maybe a book chick once or twice during somebody's lunch/breaks.

Excited to tear into the Fassbinder set soon.

Mind if I ask, Tin Drum, which B&N store you go to? Next time I roll through your town/state, I'll see if the "nice, old lady" is working there. he he.

Fairly similar. TDB is more polished than Cronos and PL is more fairy tale where TDB is a straight gothic ghost story but themes, tone and overall feel are pretty similar.

IIRC, Wong Kar-Wai's 2046 is a Sony title so perhaps there's a better chance now that it'll see a Criterion release? Also, I hope this new deal somehow leads to Kindergarten Cop on Blu-ray.

And I kind of hate Pan's Labyrinth.

It just occurred to me that, technically, we'll be seeing the Stooges on Criterion fairly soon...via their cameo in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World.
