According to @CriterionCorner, Criterion is not releasing It's a Wonderful Life (which most likely means it's Breaking the Waves), but they do have the rights to A Hard Day's Night.

The Trainspotting teaser trailer included on the Shallow Grave disc is there because it was part of the original VHS release of Shallow Grave in the UK. It's explained on the disc. Sadly I don't take it as any sign that Criterion will eventually be releasing Trainspotting.

Who voted for Frances Ha and I Married a Witch in the "What were they thinking" category? Whoever they are, they're going down.

But if you look up the page for Playtime, it does say "Out of Print" for both the Blu-ray and DVD.

(Also, it also appears Howards End is marked as OOP at the Criterion website but I see no indication of that from anywhere else...)
If you mean that you can get it cheaply enough at Amazon (well, actually, from an Amazon Marketplace seller), that just means their are unsold copies available. If you go to your search engine of choice and plug in "criterion merchant ivory", you'll get numerous links to articles detailing the lawsuit between Merchant Ivory and Janus Films, and mentioning that all of the MI titles from Criterion have gone OOP.

Well, it could be old special features. They could haul out the extras they had on their laserdisc release of the film.

Quote:
In that case, it would be disappointing because I hate when Criterion extends their energy in releasing something that's already out there when there are so many other titles that haven't been given the blu treatment yet.
I can't disagree with that. I'd love a CC release of IaWL, but I would prefer the effort be put into something else.

14728: If any U2 film should be brought to Criterion, it would be their Rattle & Hum film by Phil Joanou. It captures U2 at their most pretentious and brazen. Of all the concert films though, I'd say that their next release, ZooTV: Live in Sydney, would be the best choice since they were at their apex then.

In case you guys didn't realize it, I own one of the oldest/most popular U2 fan websites on the internet. I am about to redesign the whole thing soon. It is celebrating its 17th year online now. http://www.U2Station.com is the URL.

That's possible (and it was my first thought as well), but I have to agree with the others that it's more likely to be A Raisin in the Sun (a Columbia title, which would likely be licensed to Criterion).

Good overall results. Interesting that Frances Ha scored high in both the "What were they thinking?" and "Favorite Blind Buy" categories.

Thanks for putting this together (again).

The world will be a better place with The Beatles in the Criterion Collection.

I'm getting excited just thinking about the potential extras. I guess it's time to sell the Canadian blu-ray.

Is there some specific connection to ARitS? I remember Vinton's California Raisins were rather annoyingly all over the place in the 80's, and wore out their pop-goodwill shortly after the TV Christmas special and Saturday-morning cartoon.
The craze sparked a brief renaissance for Vinton's weird artsy claymation in the late 80's, which is why I thought it was the bigscreen Vinton retrospective that played art theaters at the time (aw, c'mon, you don't remember Rex & Herb?) And Magnolia already owns "Adventures of Mark Twain".

Sell it or burn it?

Pretty sure Apple Corps didn't own a production stake in AHDN the way they did in Help, Yellow Submarine and Let It Be (the first Beatles movie was someone else's idea), so we can't expect a private Apple/Capitol in-house disk as with the other three.
Voyager was first out with that CD-Rom, but thought AHDN had changed hands since then in the US...Although there's no more Miramax to release the DVD.

So if we go by the UK release of AHDN (July 6th, 1964) then we may be hearing something in April's announcements?

A potential release also falls nicely in the window of a BN sale...
