One of my eight titles is Salò, and I found the packaging far too cramped for the booklet, but this didn't seem to affect Hunter.
It is just that the digipacks get shmooshed easily. My NotH is fine, although my Jules et Jim has a spine almost as wide as a VHS, which bothers me more than a potential bent corner.

There's a lot to keep us busy and blustered, really...

I really look forward to discovering more lesser known directors, such as Pietri, in the future.

That is too bad. The few times that I have ordered from them I have had great experiences. I wonder what happened.

Had your order shipped? Did they provide you with a tracking number?

I'm pretty sure that Roninblues was joking, too. "Get a grip on yourself"? Think of the various possible meanings of that phrase.

It shipped on 3/21. No tracking number (USPS). They only provide tracking #'s on UPS orders.

At least you were able to get your money back. That would be funny if it ended up arriving.

Yeah, the digipacks look fantastic but they're just too delicate.

And yeah, there are worse problems to have.

So, according to the news item posted on the "News" page a short while ago, Monte Hellman is working with Criterion on his 1966 film The Shooting.

Hellman needed some more Criterion love.

It's been known for a while (along with Ride in The Whirlwind). No idea why BR.com picked up on it this time or why they left Whirlwind out of the announcement. See the FB post in this thread.

This is good news, but I hope it comes out later this year or 2015. I'm getting maxed out with pre-orders. Would be great packaged with Ride the Whirlwind.

I seem to remember that all Criterion usually hit 50% off on amazon.
Would be grateful for a response.
It seems like an Amazon 50% off sale typically happens soon after (sometimes right after) the B&N sale; so right after I spend a ton at B&N, I have to turn around and scrape away more with Amazon purchases

The Amazon sale usually hits at the start of June for 2-3 weeks. Nicely followed a few weeks later by the B&N Sale.

Get saving those pennies

Default Judex

Just finished watching Judex. I think the film almost had more style than substance. Maybe the film should have the title Diana/Marie instead because she was a stronger presence than Judex in the film. I feel like there must be a few deleted scenes with Judex plotting and scheming for goodness sake that weren't in the version I watched. Also, I hate that Judex let a bad guy take him down so easily in the second half of the film (that's not a spoiler of the ending). The bad guy was standing in front of Judex and he let him tip toe around him and smash him in the head with a blunt object. It made me think of Murder, My Sweet when Dick Powell's detective kept getting knocked out by the bad guys. I guess every hero can't be Batman.

I may sound like I didn't like the film, but I would recommend it to others. The party scene of Judex performing the magic tricks with the doves is awesome. The Diana/Marie character was quite dynamic. Also, it is one of the coolest films I have seen in quite some time. Very stylish. I also liked the homages to the silent version of Judex (using the intertitle cards, etc.)
P.S. The actor that played Judex was a magician in real life. Transforming objects into doves was one of his most famous acts.

I was watching Jeopardy! the other day, and Alex Trebek mentioned that he enjoys watching "old black and white movies from the 40's and 50's".
Wouldn't it be awesome if Criterion got him to do some commentaries and/or interviews on some titles!
