Whether it was intended to or not, I can't say. But I think it works as such.

And I apologize for my tone. I did not intend it to sound the way it apparently did. It's just that I find too often that people get bothered by the way things end if it's not wrapped up in a nice bow.

My interpretation of the White Lodge/Black Lodge dichotomy is that they are the same place, and which one you end up in depends on what kind of baggage you bring with you. I see the show's ending as exemplifying that exact point, with each viewer bringing their own "baggage" into deciding exactly what happened, and thus making it the right sort of ending. A typical sort of ending, in which everything is explained in detail just wouldn't be appropriate.

And with that, I cease talking about this off-topic subject.

I watched Repo Man for the first time today and to be honest, I kind of have a hard time figuring out why Criterion choose to release it. It just doesn't seem like Criterion material (then again, maybe I'm wrong).

The film captures the life of a child in an unfamiliar setting well. I especially enjoy all of the eccentric characters spread about the town.

Ah, now I feel like watching it again. I'm such a sucker for a coming-of-age flick.
Me too.

Hard to believe that Anton Granzelius (Ingemar) just turned 40!

The 400 Blows is another excellent coming-of-age film. Words can't express how much I enjoy it. It's in my Top 100 of all time (if my list existed).

I still have MLAAD to watch, so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I wasn't a big fan of it, either.

It's in the collection because Criterion likes to put out cult films.

Just looked him up. Aside from the hairline, he doesn't look that different.

I thought the same thing. Saga (Melinda Kinnaman) growed-up nice.

I am a fan of Repo Man, but I will admit, that it is not for everybody.

I can say this:

It is a film that I seem to appreciate more after each subsequent viewing.

It stars Harry Dean Stanton. He seems to be in a lot of Criterion Collection films: Paris, Texas, The Last Temptation of Christ, Two-Lane Blacktop, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and Wise Blood to name a few.

There are elements of the film that pay homage to other Criterion films, in particular, Kiss Me Deadly.

There is no such thing as "Criterion material." It's all down to Criterion's subjective taste. If they were more narrow-minded, we'd need more labels to fill in the gaps who wouldn't do nearly as good a job.

Repo Man might not be for everyone but it's worthy of a Criterion release IMO. It has it all - comedy, action, suspense, sci-fi, and a classic soundtrack. The transfer is fantastic.

I had to jump on Godzilla at 19.99. I hope it's worth the blind buy.

I don't know if I think of myself as a Jim Jarmusch fan, but I have liked the films of his I've seen. I'm definitely interested in Only Lovers Left Alive, though. How could I not? Tom Hiddleston? Tilda Swinton? John Hurt? Vampires?

Agreed. Frankly, I think it's pretty much "typical Criterion," if such a thing exists. It's quirky, outside-the-mainstream, full of cultural references (much in the same way many Jarmusch films are)...it's just the kind of cult film that Criterion has a soft spot for.

It's also the only Alex Cox movie I really love. Much better than Sid and Nancy, which Criterion released on both LaserDisc and DVD. I probably should revisit Walker, though (another Cox film Criterion released on DVD). I had a mixed reaction when I saw it back in the day.

Godzilla is one of the greatest titles in the Collection. You will not be disappointed. The commentary tracks are pretty amazing for both versions of the film.

Got I Married a Witch for £10 - not sure if I'll like it, not big on comedies, but something about it appeals to me haha - shame it lacks special features...

Excited to see the special effects and how they are used though

I completely forgot HDS was in Two-Lane Blacktop. I'm kicking myself that I could forget a scene from one of my favorite films that has two of my favorite actors in it! (HDS and Warren Oates)
