That is my exact scenario, I have a 5 minute commute with a Barnes & Noble on the way. I expect by the end of the month I'll be living on ramen noodles.

A blessing and a curse at the same time.

I made my first B&N sale haul (if you can call 3 titles a haul) a couple days ago. I thought I knew what I wanted, but when I walked into the store, man! ... I felt like a kid in a candy store. Giddy even. Just like that, my most wanted titles didn't seem like my most wanted titles anymore, if you know what I mean. Anything and everything was fair game. Lol.

When in to BN last night to pick up L'Eclisse and The Aquatic Life but ended up with A Hard Day's Night and Judex. The power of Criterion covers. I just couldn't say no to that sweet Hard Day's Night packaging. At my BN they had a lot of everything. Underneath the racks they had boxes full of Criterions. Gonna head back on Sat and pick up what I was initially gonna get. Unless something else catches my eye.

That feeling of browsing the Criterion section at your local Barnes and Noble is truly indescribable.

Especially when they only carry about 1/4 of the ones you were hoping to buy. Ugh. I'm so mad that they drastically cut their Criterion section.

I'm fortunate that mine is always very well stocked. They have at least one if every blu and most DVDs, carrying multiple of the popular titles. Plus the cashiers have a pretty good knowledge of the films.

I guess I will have to stop visiting this page daily until August. I'm glad that the B&N sale is enabling members to expand their Criterion collection, but I'm trying to save up for the Criterion flash sale that may take place in September (I want more Criterion points as well-only 132 out of 500 right now for that $50 reward). However, all of the discussions and pics about B&N hauls are making it tough for me to wait until Sept.

Oh well, I plan to buy the following titles in Sept:
To Be or Not To Be
Foreign Correspondent
Il Sorpasso
Judex
A Hard Day's Night
The Essential Jacques Demy

The only Demy films that I have seen in the upcoming set are Lola and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. However, I absolutely love what I have seen so far from Demy. So, I am really looking forward to watching the other films in the set for the first time.

Also, I considered picking up the Cassavetes: 5 Films set during the next sale. After watching A Woman Under the Influence and The Killing of a Chinese Bookie, I changed my mind about buying it. I appreciate Cassavetes contribution to independent cinema, but I don't feel the need to rewatch any of his films yet.

P.S.
Hey Polaroid have you watched the second Zatoichi film yet? The series starts off very slow, but gets much better with each movie. You have posted about not really being into Samurai type films, but I think this series may change your mind about the subgenre. Please give it another try.

That's how mine used to be. Now, there is literally ONE vertical shelf (about 4'x7') housing their entire collection of Criterions. I seriously hope this downsizing doesn't infect more stores.

The same here. My store in Glendale, CA is the best. They never hassle me about the coupons either.

I haven't been to my Barnes 'N Noble in a while, but the last time that I was there, they had an entire case dedicated to Blu-ray Criterions and another big area with all the DVD Criterions and Eclipse Series.

Wow big difference. The size of the collection really varies in different stores I've been in, I definitely consider myself fortunate.

I love documentaries - but not keen on Beatles and hype around them - but is it a decent documentary?

You guys are making me feel left out lol and it looks like a great release from Criterion.

I live within a 6-mile distance from three Barnes & Noble stores that carry Criterion discs, and I have managed to discipline my purchases and maintain self-control quite well. (insert laughter emoticon here)

I picked up A Hard Day's Night for $15 and change by using my coupon, membership, and sale. Woo hoo!

Incidentally, I bought another whole watermelon from the grocery store as well, and I successfully managed to transport it up to my apartment this time without tripping and breaking it apart. Score!

The B&N by me has a really great selection. I feel like an alcoholic when I go there for the 50 percent off sale. But instead of booze I want to binge on Criterion Blu-rays! I had to limit my picks to three titles. Picked up The Hidden Fortress, Throne of Blood and Thief. I had A Hard Day's Night and The Phantom Carriage in my hand and whispered sweet nothings to them. One day, you will be mine...

Well, I would agree with you ... except that I only had one coupon, which I used on Picnic at Hanging Rock. The clerk just gave me an additional 20% off on Blue is the Warmest Color without a coupon because the manager told him to do so. They like me at my B&N ... I guess because I'm fairly knowledgeable about film, and I've been helpful to other customers while shopping there in that department.
