I watched it on Netflix a few months back and loved it. I'd definitely buy a BD. I'm not sure if I think it's Criterion material though, it seems more like an Arrow title. Not that I would care who put it out

Lonesome is absolutely fantastic. I think it is one of the underrated treats in the collection. I blind bought it recently and loved it. Also, I haven't watched theme yet, but it is worth noting that there are two other movies on the disc.

Well, guess what showed up in my mailbox this morning, six days after I placed the order?! This is especially amazing because ... as much as I love living out in the country in the middle of nowhere ... it sometimes takes more than a week for a piece of first class mail to get to me from Texas!

I haven't watched my treasures yet, but I'm very impressed with the products. The cases are sturdy (no flimsy eco-lite junk that I'm going to have to replace), and the boxed sets are solidly constructed. Plus, the discs were much cheaper than their American counterparts, even with shipping factored in. Heaven help me ... have I unwittingly taken the first step into going region free?!!
please do share - what were the other 4 titles?

I number crunched myself into a stupor on AmazonUK last week being that you don't quite know what you're paying until you reach the final part of the checkout process. I never did pull the trigger, but I had these in my basket:

The Tarnished Angels (Sirk)
Classe Tous Risques (Sautet)
..and
The Hero (S. Ray)

I will definitely pick up the new The Third Man release, but since it is region free, I'm guessing that it will be easily available state-side and hopefully for less money if I am patient.

I have searched for Yi Yi at my local library at least a half dozen times. It is either checked out or I have difficulty finding it in their database as the short title brings up results from 2000 items that have nothing to do with this film. For the record, it is in Mandarin, correct? Their Mandarin section on the shelves was empty.

Also looked for Harakiri... no luck with that title either.

Those who have not watched The Hero (Nayak) by Satyajit Ray, it is very similar to the theme of Bergman's Wild Strawberries.

Based on this article, it seems it is included in the list of future criterion releases

In addition to the 4-Disc set of The Third Man, I also picked up region-free copies of The Boys From Brazil (it cost me about $6.00 as opposed to the Region 1 Shout Factory edition which is almost $16.00), the two-disc 45th Anniversary edition of Doctor Zhivago (cheap, cheap, cheap), the 1986 musical version of Little Shop of Horrors which includes two cuts of the film and all the special features included on the Region 1 digibook, and the Fantasia / Fantasia 2000 Disney double feature (OOP here), which features each film in its own individual case, housed in a sturdy cardboard case.

I paid less than $36 (shipping included) for The Third Man 4-disc Collector's Edition, which also includes the soundtrack on CD (a huge selling point for me personally). The set also includes artcards, a booklet and poster, and it wasn't that much higher in price than just the single-disc blu-ray.

I'm not familiar with the other two titles you had in your basket, but my eyebrow lifted at the mention of The Tarnished Angels ... a great film that needs to see a little love here in North America.

Hey guys,

I wanted to leave a small note. This morning, I viewed the upcoming release of Breaker Morant. The new 4K restoration is outstanding. If you have the old OOP Image release, now is probably a good time to consider trading/selling it.

Our review will be up very late tonight.

Cool!

I've had an all region player since earlier this year and have exercised great restraint by only importing one box set (A. Eye's Truffaut collection.) The only other region B title I have is Mouchette. On occasion, you can get some of the UK titles through 3rd party sellers on Amazon or through eBay for a reasonable price. Unless I can get it for a very good price or unless my expectations are that it won't get a U.S. release any time soon, I'm content to wait for domestic releases.

Sounds like you did well, though.

Unfortunately, the party that owns the rights only grudgingly licenses titles and those few exceptions were at urging of the films' directors.

I don't really see that happening here

I don't think this has been mentioned yet. Both Black Girl (Ousmane Sembene) and A Touch of Zen (King Hu) are screening at the NYFF and they are both credited as Janus Films releases. I would assume that both will get released by Criterion on Blu-ray next year.

I just got an email from Amazon stating they cancelled my preorder of Dressed to Kill - "We're unable to fulfill your order for the items listed below because they aren't available from the supplier any longer."

As of the writing of this post, they still have it listed on the site. Anyone else get this email?

Just received an email from Amazon that my Dressed To Kill Blu pre-order has been completely cancelled. The first time they pushed it back but now I guess its going to be delayed indefinitely. Thats a bummer!
