The special features on A Brighter Summer Day sound excellent. Kept it at $39.99 even though it's two disc which is nice.

Yep, that's correct. I've seen it three times in the past four years but i'll still be buying it day one, one of the greatest films ever made.

I saw that too and thought, "Is that right?" I'm partially thinking of pre-ordering it from the website just in case the price jumps up.

I'm definitely intrigued about A Brighter Summer Day, Paris Belongs to Us, The Manchurian Candidate, and Bicycle Thieves. A Poem is a Naked Person doesn't really sound that compelling to me.

2016 is starting off (thought, that hasn't even happened yet) to be an expensive year, and that's just for Criterion titles.

I have never seen "A Brighter Summer Day" but I am very intrigued.

Also might be interested in the Leon Russell doc.
Bicycle Thieves is a Top 5 film for me. Gut-wrenching moral conflict, family, history, neorealism, chase scenes.
What more could you want from a film...other than lightsabers?

Solid month but nothing that can't wait until July.

That's kind of a win/win this time of year.

I could not be more pleased with today's announcements. I'm in for all of them. Can't wait to see the 4K restoration on Bicycle Thieves; am thrilled about the 4K restoration of The Manchurian Candidate and the new Angela Lansbury interview; and not only am I excited about A Brighter Summer Day, the bonus documentary about the New Taiwan Cinema movement sounds fascinating and is exactly why I am absolutely a die-hard Criterion fan to the end.

The 2016 Wacky New Years cartoon should be coming out two weeks from today ... bring it on!!!

I always wait until the B&N sales. I guess it's easier when you consistently hover around 100 unwatched movies, but even my most anticipated ones that came out between after the July sale and this past one (Mulholland Drive, Moonrise Kingdom, and Night and the City) all were bought during the November sale. It's going to be a long hard wait for Gilda, but I'll manage.

Maybe by the time the July sale comes, I'll finally have my head wrapped around the last 30 minutes of Mulholland Drive. Oh, who am I kidding? That'll never happen.

Alright! I'm down for The Manchurian Candidate and Bicycle Thieves, for sure.

A Brighter Summer Day and Paris Belongs to Us intrigue me. These may be July sale candidates.

(The existing Blu-ray of The Manchurian Candidate is sitting in my still-unwatched stack right now. Argh.)

Yeah, I'm pretty disciplined about waiting for the sales too but some things try ones patience.

I don't know how long I'm going to be able to hold off on Gilda, for instance. I'm half-thinking CC has a flash sale in Feb or March. I can probably hold out that long but not too much longer.

The unwatched stack is even making it a little easier to show restraint during the B&N sales. In years past by the time the sale period was winding down I would find myself dipping into the 'eh, I dunno, maybe, why not' section of my wish list and I've been questioning that approach lately

I certainly don't regret it. I just don't see as much of a need to continue.

Oh, I obviously didn't notice you already mentioned Gilda. Well, then, yeah...me too

In for The Bicycle Thieves, The Manchurian Candidate and A Brighter Summer Day.
Anyone not excited for that last one just hasn't seen it (which is understandable as it never got a home video release in the US).
I've only seen the first half off a chinese vhs rip with forced Mandarin subtitles, so Im looking really forward to watching it nice and proper

What titles from the 2015 new years cartoon havent been released/confirmed yet?

The new world and the clock (after hours???) are the only ones I can think of right now.
Ah, and was the couple in the car related to any specific release? I always thought it was for Alice in the Cities but it could be Until the end of the world too...

Is there anything particularly notable about A Brighter Summer Day? Reading a bit about it has me intrigued, but I'm still on the fence.

Wasn't there a Spinal Tap reference in there? The Master Builder holding Stonehenge plans?

Bicycle Thieves and Paris Belongs To Us are no-brainers for me. Actually, Paris Belongs To Us will be a blind-buy for me. I've read about it many times, but never got the chance to see it. I'm really looking forward to it.

A BRIGHTER SUMMERS DAY!!!! I have waited so long.

For those that don't know, the film has been in awful condition for many many years. The only copy available is worse than VHS quality with hard-coded Mandarin/English subtitles. It was restored a few years ago by the WCF and now looks crystal clean, but the only way to see this restoration is in film festivals.

But now it will be on blu ray. Its one of the greatest films ever made in my opinion and may even take the top spot with the new restoration.
